Dang it, I usually try to angle shots so that doesn't show.

That pic (and the ones I posted in Peter's thread) were opportunistic shots with little time to prep. Sunshine appeared out of nowhere on my desk, and I'm rarely at this desk at this time of day.

Of course I wanted an excuse to use my new camera, which I ordered after being frustrated by my phone's refusal yo focus on Brassy a week or so ago. Conclusion: even an older model, low-end DSLR puts a phone camera to shame. I guess I knew that, but my daughter usually has my other real camera. Two is one and one is none. :D

You mean camera? Rebel SL1. Have a had a T2i as well, but like I said, my daughter seems to think that's hers. Oh and for some reason she didn't take the Speedlight, and somewhere we have the 60mm macro lens too, so it made sense to get another camera that's compatible with that stuff.

Thanks.

If you've got big, bear-paw hands, the SL1 might not be the best choice. Not a problem for me. My first real camera was an Olympus OM-1 back in the mid 1970s (manual everything!) and an OM-2 was my primary camera for a coupla decades, so I've always like a more compact form-factor.

my first was olympus OM series too

loved the 15 second shutter speed for night photography [with tripod, of course]

not even nikon or canon could match the long exposures at the time

My fuzzy memory says they could go longer than that, but I could be wrong. I may be thinking the OM-2, with "off the film" real-time metering. I seem to recall it could keep the shutter open however long it took to get some exposure.

Still have my OM1n set up with auto-winder, extra lenses and Sunpack 611 flash unit. Great set-up back in the day.

Everything keeps coming back to Nikon for me.

Seems to have a great feature set, plenty of options and support for attachments and accessories.

And a low introductory price for a kit with a couple lenses and maybe a bag for the interim.

D3300 & D3400 seem appealing and readily available (3400 more so now).

Really wanting to have the kids learn photography.

Got a circa 2006-ish Kodak with some manual options, f stop, exposure, timer, etc.

They can have unfettered access to that on a day to day and use of the future DSLR under adult supervision from time to time.

So.

Guys.

Am I on the right track?

Thoughts?

ETA: No, they're bear paws, yes. But they're tiny, lady size Trump-ish bear paws. About as disproportionate (if not, more) as my short, fat size 9 feet holding up my 250 pound frame miraculously.

Nikon have the best lenses.

Don't shop for more features. Think CC of the DSLR world. Aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual is all that's needed. But auto bracketing helps.

Shop mostly big ayuss sensor and quality lenses. Big sensor lets more light in, so less black pixels.

Mega pixies are a crock of poop. Don't get sucked in by that selling point, ever.

I'm having a hard time uploading pics. Anyone else here run the Polaroid SX 70 One Step? o_O
I use it as a back up camera.

Though, I must admit I don't see it as very useful in the car.

I have many awesome stereo realist cameras, viewers, projector, just about anything made for the stereo realist that my Father left me. Many thousands of slides of pictures he took from when I was little till not long before he left us. Taken with the right perspectives there isn't anything that can compare to the stereo experience IMO. He was developing and mounting them himself after the last remaining company that processed them quit doing it. I don't have the time or patience to process them so everything is boxed up. Perhaps someday when and if I retire.

Mundy that is so cool. I sir, would be ecstatic to see you open that box and see what there is to see. I pick up hobbies all the time and was in the photo business for over 30 years. YeP, owned that Olympus with on film metering...left the Nikon to get that Olympus back in the day. Anyway, if I was going to start collecting something now it would be of what you are talking about. (i think) Something like this:

2cam.jpg
