JMB (John Moses Browning) designed the 1911 to have an internal extractor.... Sig, S&W, and a few others, have changed the design to incorporate an external extractor...

This part, here.....

Either way,... it's a fine firearm, and I'm slightly jealous...

good point about the external extractor not being in the original design of the 1911..... but alas this is not a 1911. its a p220 elite. nice piece. was sigs answer to the 1911 before they started making them. and yes the sig 1911's are made with external extractor but this is not one of them.
