I was absent most of yesterday. Once we get to page 21, I will post a picture so you can see what I was up to :)

Ooh,.... I can't wait!!! :D

I miss this picher

I must confess,.... I look at that pic, at least once a day... Typically what follows, is a quick online search of a few of the larger mills that I'd like to buy, followed by a quick glance at my bank account,.... then the inevitable shaking of the head,.... and the slow, but deliberate walk back to the workbench....

:D

Then here's a new one for ya:

Interesting bit of purplish patina developing on it...

Oh, man.......that's looking sweet!!!
Love the purple hues... Thanks for the updated pic! :D

That's too funny how you described that about the new mill and the sequence of events. Lol.

Have you looked at craigslist? I've seen a few nice mills go cheap in my area. A couple that needed just a little work were almost given away...

Yeah,... I'm kinda stuck.... Old iron,... or shiny new, with all the bells and whistles.... Something from Tormach, pehaps... Decisions, decisions....

True story, bro.... :D

Few more pichers for page 20,...

I've had better luck with the old stuff. Refurbish it properly and it will outlast the new stuff by decades. One of those "they don't build 'em like they used to" things. Of course, ymmv. My old Bridgeport looks brand new, but I spent a lot of time on her...

OK, so here is a special cameo appearance of my brass CC mod:

I only had a few minutes to snap pictures. We kept the tube pretty hot all day at a historical preservation benefit event for the Tennessee State Museum. She was all shined up before I left. The patina you see is just from a few moments of handling to snap this picture. FYI, black powder will leave a patina on brass faster than anything I have ever seen. My CC mod was reliable and kept me going despite the hectic schedule until nearly midnight.

Here is a night time picture (daytime firing pictures are not PC for posting here):

When black powder is left on the mod for several minutes will leave a patina that has reddish tones to it. I don't recommend you use a brass cleaner on it unless you first wash thoroughly with soap and water. A lot of chemicals can leave permanent marks on metals when they interact with black powder. One of my brass buckles are permanently stained due to this reaction.
