I was really glad to see that things were going well so far! I tend to go toward overkill sometimes on materials but I want more durability from my metal mods. I feel that 7075 is a good option at least for nowIn the interest of full disclosure,..... NF talked me into giving 7075 a shot... It is definitely taking more time to machine, but it's not horrible. Bits heat up a little quicker, so I'm having to take it slower than I do with 6061 or brass.
We'll see what's really goin' on once I start boring the big holes... So far, so good though...![]()
Thanks so much for giving it a try. Really looking good! You're the manThis pair belongs to kkiet and Nautilusfan.![]()

Receivers, sure. But barrels? I don't think so!Yea it's some hard stuff! That's why they make rifle barrels out of it![]()
Actually you're correct in that a lot of the receivers especially in AR style rifles are using 7075... Strong, lightweight... Not really appropriate for barrels at the higher velocities and higher pressures. 7075 is used for barrels in smaller calibers with lower pressures.Receivers, sure. But barrels? I don't think so!
They cheat by using a "Chromalloy steel liner".Actually you're correct in that a lot of the receivers especially in AR style rifles are using 7075... Strong, lightweight... HRH is very happy with it. She is picky with her mods (who isn't right?) and only uses her Dibi, Red Sky Cruisers and now this.
The button press on it is ideal, it's small enough for her hands and heavy enough to cause anyone concussion! She says to say 'thanks', CC, so thanks indeed.
