It may have been. It lists as a "durable ceramic coating" or Zenkote.

I'm really looking to have a barrier against my corrosive bodily secretions (eeeew!). My sweat stains this thing like there's no tomorrow. You can see exactly how I hold it. Vide:

I figure, since I won't be putting it in with my keys, a clear matte coating should prevent the sweat staining. As long as the inner faces arent sprayed, it should work...

Fortune favors the Bottom Feeders.
You didn't happen to wash it in dish soap did you? Alum + dish soap = black

Man,...I've never seen the aluminum do that. Not like that.

If you use the scotch brite on it, how long does it take that to return? Could it be, that once a week, you need to brush it out? :?:

Did you catch Sloth's video? Not the awesome yoga one... I mean the one where he lays the scotch brite pad down on the table, and drags the mod across the pad? He did a really good job of showing how it's done. :thumb:

As a matter of fact, SuperX did a fine job, as well, showing the technique. :)

five days. I scotch brite'd it today. Totally clean. Ren waxed. Its starting again. Its just how it is, Hence the desire for a coating. I'm very familiar with metal finishing techniques, so no worries there. I did, however, watch both of those videos.

I'd prefer to have to brush it as little as possible. Each time removes material. Even minute amounts add up. A coating (for me) is the way to go.

I wonder if there's any chance that a metal polish might work better for you than the wax???

Some Simichrome Metal Polish, perhaps???
Simichrome will remove tarnish beautifully. I haven't used it on my 7075 (because I haven't needed to) but I've used it on brass, copper and also bare steel. It's great for the feed ramps in an auto-loader. I think it contains a very fine abrasive, fine enough to leave a true mirror finish if you work it enough.

However, I don't think it's a substitute for wax. As you probably know, I have a dibi-sumpin with a copper (rather than the more common aluminum) upper plate. For the first ~9 months I had it, I used Simichrome on that copper exclusively. Then the wood mod body started to feel a bit dry, so I asked Peter what I should use on it, and he recommended Renaissance Wax. I ordered some and used it on the whole mod, including the freshly polished copper. It definitely kept (and continues to keep) the copper looking better longer than the Simichrome alone did, but it is no panacea against tarnish/patina, as the pictures of my Copper CeeCee have shown.

Cerakote is probably the most durable clear finish short of properly anodizing the thing, but anodizing gets complicated, 'cause it would have to be stripped of all parts including the magnets, and carefully masked where you don't want it to become non-conductive.

I found that using Simichrome made a big difference. Mine hasn't been anywhere near as black as Moxie's, but it was black enough that you could very clearly see where my fingers rested.

First time, I tried ultrafine Scotchbrite followed by Renaissance Wax. It blackened up within a few days.

Last weekend, CC was partying at a vape meet in Sydney, so I shined her up for the occasion - Scotchbrite followed by SimiChrome followed by Renaissance Wax. It's only four days, and in some lights you can see it's starting to darken around the squonk hole, but it's a bit improvement over my first effort.

NEVR-Dull and Ren wax have been my go-tos for years. I need to find my NEVR-Dull. It definitely needs some sort of coating. The horror stories of cerakote and its refinishing are making me want to shy away from that type of permanence. Plastidip is probably the best answer (thanks to whomever suggested it!). I was thinking harder, but perhaps softer is a better due to the fact that it can be removed and re-coated easily.

Yea, I'm a modded triangle addict. Just had to fix one last night I boofed up so thought I better get more since I have all of the ones I have on mods. If they aren't available I'll just have to remember those immortal words:

"I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess."
Hey Mundy, I have a couple of the triangles (unmodified) around the house. If you want them, we could work something out.

Pm me.
