Say Corey, how difficult would it be, to change out the current 510 assembly into the new tool-less one? Bearing in mind that some people (ahemMEahem) can be quite clumsy and bad with tools.

Specifically, I'm unsure how the actual 510 and that notched brass ring is removed/secured

I'd like to know too. Old eyes. Sausage fingers with occasional twitching...

Here she is , feels so weird after getting used to the aluminium but I quite like the extra weight, feels so solid. I know which one I'd rather have in a dark alley with me.

Tomorrow Ally will be getting a good rub down, new posi contact, silver negative, SS 510 pin and a black button.

Sure hope that's how my future wife feels about me too. [emoji51]

Yes. Hubs once took my new TRA Reo Mini the day I polished it. Now the deal is 2 of everything. That way, if he doesn't like it - I win - again. I'm a quick learner. Took longer to wear him down this time - new tactics had to be employed. Overtime and traveling. He lasted 11 days at home by himself then said enough...just get on the list. :D

Nice!

I've gotchu down! :thumb:

First, you'll have to remove the little brass nut, positive contact, brass washers, and white delrin insulator....

Then, you have to remove the big brass nut, on the underside of the 510...

I use a small pair of channel lock pliers to grab the nut...

Once the nut is off, you'll then have to remove the 510 housing from the cap.

This might be tricky, as it is threaded into the cap, cranked down tight, and there's no good way to get a hold of it, without a 510 installation tool.....

I use one of these to install 'em.....

A tool like this could be used from the underside of the cap, to drive the housing up from the bottom... An old carto could probably be used for this, as well... You could just thread the carto in from the underside, grab the carto with some pliers, and turn it clockwise to get it started...

Some will come out easily, some not so much.... If you wanted to see if you'll be able to do it yourself, I would try to remove and reinstall your existing 510. If you can do that, and get it good and tight so that everything works properly, then you should be able to do the job. :thumb:

I have a pair of tweezers and a shrimp fork...should probably send mine in too, as well.

In yours,....yes, it will work. :thumb:

You are correct,...in some of the earlier mods, I used a longer screw... The standard 3/4" screw it a little too short to use the thumb nut, without making it thinner. Taking some thickness off the thumb nut, that is...

The price will be $25 for the new 510 assembly. ($35 if I install it for you.) That includes the Stainless housing, white Delrin insulator, feed screw (pin), thumb nut, and o-rings... You have the choice of Stainless or Naval Brass, for the pin. :)

I knew I had a long one!!;)

Not to get too complicated with pricing breakdowns but if some of us had the original long screw can the thumb screw be purchased separately? Second question, can the original 510 be left intact and just replace new longer screw & thumbscrew? If so can the longer screw & thumbscrew be purchased without the 510? I know, I know, too many questions!!!!
Partial replacements might cut down a possible flood of CCs coming back to you for retrofits taking up your time with yet more stuff to do! Just replacing the longer screw & thumb screw should be easy enough for all to do with no special tools required.

that's a cool 510 tool Corey, did you make it or can they be bought somewhere? I've been meaning to make one for the longest time but if something like that can be bought it would be cool...

also I never bothered you about getting a silver negative contact but I'd def like to get one eventually, now I guess I'd like to get a silver neg and a new 510 to go with it:) actually I'd need 2 of the 510's, one for my CC and one for my dibbi, I could bother peter for the 510's but since I'd like a silver neg contact anyway I may as well just get them from you, lmk how much and how and stuff, thanks :)

I'll look into it. The new housing is 1mm longer than the old, allowing the head of the pin to be thicker... One might have to run with their insulator ran farther out, in order for their atty to sit flush...

That is actually the one FDV sells. I did have to turn the flange down on the lathe, in order for it to fit down in the recess... It's a pretty solid little piece, tho... :thumb:
