It's funny, my Aluminum is beat to sh..., the Brass is patinad and rubbed but, for some reason I'm baby-ing the SS. Carry it to work and back in the velvet pouch....new band name "Velvet Pouch".
Woohoo! Thanks, Corey, for the new 510 bits. All three CCs will be getting new 510s this weekend along with a full spa treatment. Gotta hit 'em with Brasso, scrub 'em with a Scotchbrite pad, dab a bit of No-Ox-ID, and bend the positive contacts back to their original shapes. Copper CC is getting a new hat as well - going to be a good time on Saturday.

Very impressive restoration! Obviously your method works very well for you. Just wanted to add that a ScotchBrite pad (mentioned numerous times throughout this thread) can be very useful in cleaning up a CC. Definitely worth looking into!Fwiw if any if you have to do a deep deep clean : refinish inside barkeepers friend and a sacrificed sonicare toothbrush head do an amazing job.
Also after the scotch brite touch ups a single pass with sunshine cloth (yellow polish cloth available in Amazon) adds just the right amount if shine back to the brush. I find barkeepers friend to he a better gentler answer fir removing dirt and grime. At tue ejd you can use red shop towels (Amazon again super cheap)and run it through or shine down
I use the liquid version nit powder. Four pack of big bottles on amazon is $11 One bottle is like $6 2/$8. Do it makes no sense not to get the four pack as its so much cheaper.
I haven't finished yet but im almost done completely refinishing my 7078 new to me and very neglected cc
Heres how it was when it arrived. And no that black isn't just dirt that wipes off. Heres where I an now .
This is the biggest restore Ive had to do. So I did it slowly and started gently increasing the chemicals and pressure over the course if around 5-8 hours if works
Wiping with a damp microfiber towel every other day would have prevented this mod from ever getting his bad. Literally wiping in and iff barkeepers friend once a week too
Take my word fkr it. You dint want to have to try and refinish aluminum if you can spend five seconds a day proactively .
Anyway arrived like this. (I did a standard wipe down and soapy water clean before taking these. . Unfortunately cleaning this isn't like wiling patina off brass or copper. If hard aluminum looks like this its no longer just in need of a clean and will clean right ip. It herds refinishing.
Heres the tale of neglect to scare you all straight!!

Err. What?Ewwwwwwww! You put your mouth on dat thing and sucked it![]()
Yah I have used that as part of the overall process after a fine grit sand. The bar keeper friend and sonic toothbrush I'd very good for the top as it doesn't mess up the nickel on the magnets orb then silver negative pin.
The whole process was hours and hours of work but it's such an amazing mod it feels good to bring her back and CC were amazing in helping with suggestions (12 gauge brush is a great idea and what led me to the sonic toothbrush)
.right out if the gate when I realized it was going to be a long process I did five 4 minute sonic baths changing water each time and rinsing to loosen actual dirt.
Nice thing about mech is you can dunk the whole thing in water...I used a small amount of cola to restore the hardware under the top. Takes a few minutes and works great
Of anyone needs it I can detail the process or just specify what I found works for which parts..
The main issue here was the deep black just kept sticking around over and over and over. Even after scour pads. Chemicals and sanding. It took a lot to get this off
If I wasn't stuck in a hotel I would have tried a friend's suggestion. He's a chef and said they use two tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar simmered fkr ten mins to care for high end aluminum and remove wear that's probably one of the easiest proactive care methods but you have to be sure to get all rubber parts off
I'm just about ready to vape now. Yay!!!
