Big earthquake in CA just now

Here's an interesting thought. News of this earthquake, via a Web site dedicated to electronic cigarettes (and not primarily to earthquakes) just reached me hours faster than the shock waves from the shaker possibly could.

A little looking around notes that, 100 miles out from the epicenter, on average the Twitter updates regarding the quake are reaching the readers faster than the shock waves are. In the event of a major quake, it's possible that Twitter updates might save some lives further out.

what happened on that day!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?

A terrible, terrible East Coast earthquake. Like, 5.2-ish. That was a joke posted because, all things considered, most damage was restricted to spilled drinks and lawn furniture knocked over.

Actually, the National Monument was slightly damaged, so it wasn't all fun and games.
