i get something of the same thing. my throat hit always seems more intense when i first wake up or when i stop vaping for a while and start again. i guess its just your throat getting used to it again. i never noticed when i first started vaping because it was my pacifier. now i can vape a bit and acctually set the mod down and just relax. thats my 2 cents if someone has a real or medical answer id love to hear it.

Try inhaling slower and see if that helps. It's just like when you first started smoking. Remember the coughing and hacking every time you'd try to inhale? Same principle here. If you're using juice with a lot of PG and it starts to irritate your throat you can try increasing the amount of VG in your juice. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water, too. Vaping is dehydrating!

When you take a break, your nerve endings relax. When you start up, the first few drags the nicotine constricts blood vessels, hence the hit. If you've ever had nicotine gum, its the same sensation. Nic gets absorbed into the skin, and of course, depending on the flavor, there could also be citric acid, and other elements that are somewhat harsh. As you continue to vape, the initial intense sensation dies down. Its not that it is not happening, but you become accustomed to it. Its not so odd a phenomena and happens with lots of things besides vaping.
