Preliminary googling seems to confirm that the nicotine is indeed the culprit, and that nicotine and hormonal birth control pills should definitely not be mixed in women over 35. Of course, doesn't say how much nicotine or what the vaping equivalent would be, but something to think about. As for me, in my over 35idness, this has given me some pause. I mostly vape 0 or 3 mg, but I sometimes do vape 6mg. I'm going to seriously consider moving down to all 0 nic if I can. Thanks for posting this.
omg im 46 and vape 24mg i never even thought about it i know smoking can be dangerous with the pill blood clots in legs etc will have to cut down on the nic levels.

I was interested in this so I decided to have a look on the internet. It seems that nicotine actually can increase your risk of blood clots. So I guess that for this particular purpose, vaping should be considered the same as smoking when making a decision about taking the contraceptive pill. But there doesn't seem to be any increased risk.

However, there are many other health risks that your girlfriend is now reducing since switching to vaping, so it's definitely a healthier alternative for general health. And once she has got through the stage of getting over the addiction to the many other chemicals in cigarette smoke, she can start reducing her nicotine levels if she wants. So I would say that switching to vaping is definitely a step in the right direction, but obviously not totally risk-free.

I couldn't find anything about nicotine reducing its effectiveness though, and as many people do smoke whilst taking birth control I would have thought people would have noticed by now. So you're probably safe on that count!

Everyone was right re: risk of stroke and BC with smoking---but that risk is really negligible if you're under 35. I was on the pill and smoked a PAD from age 18-33, no breaks, no pregnancies. I quit BCP when I turned 33, because I knew I wouldn't quit smoking and I have a family history of stroke. Have no clue about the nicotine, although it makes sense that the two together would increase risk for those over 35.

Well there is a smoking warning but we aren't sure if it's for the nicotine, or the tobacco. No kids yet so I'm assuming it worked while smoking but this is more for health instead of preventing kids.

My daughter is a Labor and Delivery RN. Her hospital recommends that their patients there to give birth who smoke switch to vaping or nicotine patches as a better alternative to smoking if they are not prepared to quit cold turkey. Many hospitals have for years provided nicotine patches to their pregnant patients. There really is not much difference IMO other than vaping may be more effective in keeping the patient away from cigarettes.

I had no problems quitting smoking during pregnancy and nursing. I think the hormones produced by nursing took care of any nic craving. In fact, we had trouble quitting. When my daughter was five, she talked about "eating nanny." And, of course, we didn't smoke in the house, either. LOL No problem doing it for my babies.

As for vaping and BC, lower your risk by going low, or omg.
