Hi Group,

New member and this is my first post :)

I must admit I know very little about e-cigarettes and vaping, however I would really appreciate your advice.

This past Wednesday I bought my dad the blu plus starter pack in an effort to help him cut down and eventually quit actual cigarettes.

My dad is 60 and he has been smoking since he was 18. His cigarette of choice is Winston ultra lights 100.

Today I asked him how it's going and he said good, but the last two days it has been burning his mouth. I asked him if it is more of a burn from the heat of the vapor or if it's more of a chemical burn. He said it feels more like a chemical burn. So I'm wondering if maybe the starter pack with the 2.4% nicotine is too strong for him or is the burning from something else like the eliquid leaking.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this and your suggestions.

Thanks,

Jack

Thank you and will do.

I just googled some of the terms in your post. Please correct me where I am wrong, but, it seems most ecigs liquid is composed of a ratio of vg and pg, correct? I'll try to figure out what the ratio is for Blu plus classic tobacco 2.4% eliquid.

I will also suggest he tries the 1.2% classic tobacco and see if the burning persists.

I was trying to find a smoke shop and get advice, but all were closed and I bought from a cvs or Walgreens, so I am open to any advice. Money is not an object I just want something most like the cigarettes he is used to.

Could he do the same thing as you with his blu plus set up and mix his own and if not, could you recommend a setup for him... It sounds like you have no flavor and just the niccotene flavor, right?

Thanks again for the posts.

Jack

sounds like he just needs a lower strength.
1.2% should be better if he smoked lights

You are correct on most liquid being a mix of pg and vg. Some people have a reaction to pg. Blu and other store bought devices are pre filled and cannot be refilled. Mixing isn't difficult but you should read the DIY forum for an idea of what you are getting into.

More likely he is having a hard time adjusting to vaping instead of smoking. Try the lower nic first.

I don't know if Blu has changed the design of their cartridges since we last used them in 2012, but back then you could refill them. They are not meant to be refillable, but we found a hack online that showed how to do it. We were able to refill them and got extra use out of the cartridges before they died.

Jack, if he smokes a pack a day of winston ultra lights, he shouldn't be using more than 10mg nicotine. 24 is way way too high for somebody on ultra lights.

Do him a favor anyway, and buy him a nice evod kit for christmas. I guarantee he willl like it for his "first" ecig, it's a starter kit type but much better than a Blu. then he can also purchase ANY eliquid under the sun, online or at a B&M to fill the clearomizer with. I suggest this kit because it's cheap, VERY SIMPLE, and I quit smoking on one. :)

He will get 2 batteries, 2 clearomizers to hold the ejuice, and each of those has a coil in it, PLUS the kit comes with 5 extra coils. That is good for a month or longer easy. Pick up some ejuice and he should be good for well over a month! I recommend 12mg nictotine for him, since that is closest to 10mg.

Kanger EVOD Starter Kit - Authentic Kangertech™ - Vapor Authority

This isn't the latest greatest kit but it will do him just fine coming off a Blu. And again, it's SIMPLE and the evod clearomizers don't leak and are very easy to use. the black kit and the blue kit have rubberized coating on the batteries which helps when holding and not slippery.

Later on once he gets the hang of it he can upgrade to something if he needs to. But coming off ultra-lights I REALLY don't think he needs more power to start out with. He is used to a gentle smoke.

Pick up some eliquid ....if he wants a tobacco flavor a lot of people seem to like Halo Tribeca, and they have that there, as welll as many other brands and flavors.

Or, you can find another vendor, I just pulled up one that came to mind. :)
