I second that !
Anything made to be put into an aquarium has to be good for fish !

Also, I didnt care for the blue foam. but I do like the AquaClear foam (even though it seems to be more "open cell vs. closed cell foam") I like it better.
It's hard to say. Running water through it is not the same as soaking it in PG a solvent that can soften epoxy, then heating/burning it while inhaling into the lungs.

I was thinking the same thing, it doesn't experience any heat in the fish tank. I read all the toxins in cigarettes today & boy that made me feel much better about the blue foam. But still, i really wanna know how safe this stuff is.

If you are really concerned, I would suggest you drip. Or try the pyramid tea bag mod. Like I said before, can't be any worse than poly fill the standard cart filler.

Good point WillyB, so after a few days I pulled it from the cart and inspected it under a loupe and it still looked good ! Not to say it didnt deteriorate "any" (possibly under a microscope you would notice something) but it gets changed out with a fresh piece every other week.

Also while speaking about heating/burning...How about those Carto's huh ?

I don't think the PG is what eats the epoxy, it is the nicotine in the PG that eats away at things... just my opinion.

As far as the blue foam... I can't imagine it being harmful.

It's a secret!
It may not be harmful until heated. I work with molding/casting supplies and some of them work like that. Harmless when cured, but harmful if heated. Look at plastic soda bottles... they're fine for drinking soda out of...but have you ever set one on fire? Think that foul black smoke is safe too?

I'm not saying that blue foam is harmful because I have no idea. But my stance is this: Is it being used in the manner intended which has proven to be safe? The answer is "no" so in my book, that requires caution.

I've resorted to dripping.

the stuff it is made out of is toxic in burnt (as in toxic smoke). but it is very heat resistant. you WILL NOT BURN this stuff. you will melt the cart long before it burns, this i have seen for a fact several times. have had 3 total cartridge melt downs, and in each I pulled out the blue foam washed it and was amazed to find it was perfectly intact. as for polyfill (which is also produces toxic fumes when burnt) it comes no where close and burns rather easily.

test this yourself if you like, and have a atty and cart to sacrifice (there is no getting that nasty burnt tasty out of an atty after a full out melt down lol)

that's not always true, i've seen some very singed blue foam in my friends tornado, and his carts have never melted. I've heard a lot of conflicting information on this subject, it would would be interesting to see a scientific study on what (if any) fumes get released from the blue foam under vaping conditions

Hmmm, Interesting....I may need to break out my Mythbusters personality :D

Like Ive said, I use "AquaClear" open cell type foam that looked fine after 2 weeks under a glass loupe. I trash it after that so I cant say how long it will last before breaking down (or if something may happen within the 1st puff) !!
What ya'll are looking for is blue foam vs. stock cart foam...I guess "straws" would need to be included in this as well!
Im currently dripping & trying to get a few mods out so im not going to say this is my sole mission @ the moment...but as soon as I find time, I will do as much as I can.

There is another thread on the same topic and question. As I said there, just keep it wet and happy and you won't have any problems. If you run your cart so dry that it can scorch the foam, you are asking for problems anyway. I have never had any problems with it but that's me and I had kept mine wet.

I'm using Fluval now with great success so I'm not on the foam anymore but don't scorch it and you won't have to worry. Keep it wet.
