I'm using a Kayfun 3.1 with a 2 ohms coil (10/9 wraps of a 28 gauge kanthal) and a cotton wick and I'm vaping Boba's at 10.5 watts on my Semovar. Yesterday it was fine..a very pleasant and smooth vape..But I started getting dry hits towards the end of the tank. So today I changed the wick after dry burning the coil..used less cotton..and it got worse! I'm halfway through the tank and I keep getting dry hits. I know that Boba's wicking can be a pain in the ......so I tried tightening the air flow screw a bit to get a tighter draw, and made sure the kayfun is not overfilled..but still I keep getting dry hits nearly every other drag...any advice?

Don't fill tank completely, leave a few mm air.
When tucking your wick into the chimney base, make certain that the juice channels are NOT plugged/obstructed.
Try less and less cotton until it floods. Add a bit back and see how it handles.

Like I mentioned before...
Love BB.
Love my R91%.
Hate them together.

Cheers
I

Thanks Izan! initially I had the tank filled to the brim..and then after getting those dry hits I emptied it a bit...took some time for the dry hits to end though..right now I have no dry hits..but I'm not sure it's because I emptied the tank a bit. For this tank I used the least amount of cotton I've ever used..but again..I'm new to BB and maybe its thickness calls for even smaller amounts of cotton..seems BB has its own vaping rules!!

BTW you can't imagine what a just a few days of steeping did to the BB..oh my :)

I had the same issue. I would cover the air hole and take a draw without firing to prime the wick. Not ideal, but it helped until i could fix the problem. Less cotton....pushed up against the wall just touching the deck helped. I never did it but you could thin the liquid with some distilled water or ETOH.

I'm usually careful when it comes to the placement of my wicks in the Kayfun..I do like you said and push them up against teh wall and make sure they are not blocking the grooves, but touching them to access the liquid. Read somewhere that a tighter draw helps BB wick better. More force is needed because of its thickness. That's why tightening the air screw a bit can help.

Well..I'll give it another shot with a new tank in an hour or so...should I rewick and dry burn? I already did that this morning

I don't use Boba...but I do vape a 100% VG juice in a KFL+ V2. I use a small amount of cotton only,

What i have done to help with this is open the top slightly until a little bubble or two comes up and close it back, it fixes the problem for me!

I did try that - I guess - when I emptied a small part of the liquid..guess I have to try with less cotton and try not to be greedy in filling my tank.

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you will definitely improve, the efficiency, durability and flavor from your coil, if it's a proper tensioned microcoil.

No offense taken!! Thanks for the video! I've never rolled my coils that way...ya learn something new daily! That looks insanely tight! All I'm about flavour, so thanks for the tip!!

No problem ! The wicking is an importantant part of the equation, and it seems you have that part down. The coiling is equally important. The great thing about a contact microcoil is the speedy heat up time, the more compact it is the more the wraps absorb neighboring wraps heat. When you have a true contact microcoil, and the wicking is also right, there are no hot spots, where the liquid will heat up to a higher temperature. Even heat distribution and complete and uniform wick contact with the coil, is key to great flavor.

There are two huge threads dedicated to these coils, in the rebuildable and clearomizer threads.

I tried almost everything..less cotton..leaving space for air when I'm filling my kayfun..properly wrapped coil..all with minor improvement..seems the only thing that worked is the temporary fix of closing the airhole and taking a draw without firing or unscrewing the cap a bit..but it's only temporary :(
