Wasn't sure whether to ask this here or in the atty area...can someone tell me how much needle should be sticking up past the top edge of the batt connector?...unlike my usual lazy self I am currently looking for this but if someone happens to have a bottom feeder and a ruler handy?...

Hey wildman,
I just measured a Old goat mod, where the needle is fixed to bottle.
I came up with 2mm above outer edge of 510 connector or 1/4 inch above base of positive contact.

Or just feed from top of atty, just add 1/8 inch hole next to your connector and you can switch back and forth.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
You have quite a range to work with and it depends on what you want from it. You can run it flush to the top of the positive connector hole (the one it is running through on the mod) and all excess is drawn back into the bottle. As a bonus the air hole won't be blocked in the slightest. You will get juice that has been in the atty drawn back into the bottle so keep that consideration in mind.

At the other extreme you can run it up through the atty until it just barely gets to the coil or farther in the case of cartos (if you plan on using them). In this case the excess is sucked up into the atty and produces more gurgling as the airway is partially blocked.

I personally would not protrude beyond the top of the connector and would likely have it lower.

Thanks tons guys, I was looking at the DIY Wet Box thread and followed the "gently bottom out the atty on the needle then retract it a 1/16 or so" but the draw seemed excessively tight and I was just wondering what the hell I was doing wrong, and that's with a 16 gauge needle, can't imagine how a 14 would work...I think I like the "flush with the top of the pos conn" route

To qualify my "not having a clue what I'm doing" post...2 1/2 months of vaping, and I just got my first atomizers and I've also got a Reo Mini on the way so I thought I'd bang off a quick bottom feeder mod and start that learning curve...I've already built a top feeder system as Alekos suggested and it works great (looks pretty ghetto though, lol)...though I'm kinda digging the whole "dripping" thing...even if it is a PITA

Iv also found a 15ga needle to work best with the large hole 510 connectors . To solder the needle wrap the pos wire around it and solder the wire to the connector . It holds the needle in there perfect since soldering a needle is almost impossible . Then run some tygon hose from the needle into the bottle . Make sure to fill the rest of the back of the connector with epoxy .

Soldering SS tubing (needle) is no different; just make sure you have the surfaces clean and use an acid based flux.

What I did was; screw on an atty and gently put the needle through the bottom of the connector until you feel it stop(gingerly now!). Then holding the needle in place from the bottom, unscrew atty to see how far it went... then just back it off a mm or so from that position when you solder.

It wound up being pretty much level with the top of the connector, so like others said, that's a good position.
