I am taking a trip during the holidays and going to visit the Philippines. We are going out to the boonies and if I can find a good carver I have thought about having someone make me a few empty boxes for mods. No holes drilled for the switches or atty's - just the box with a door.

Upon returning I would see what I could find as components to make a good box mod. May be asking for assistance when and if that time comes from the individuals with experience in this area...

The Philippines has a lot of beautiful woods that in some cases are fairly rare and have thought they would make some beautiful boxes. If I can find a good carver and some nice wood I thought maybe I would have 10 made and then if I can make a good functional box mod out of them - I could give them away as presents.

I am not going into business, but I thought they would make great gifts if I can find the right person to help me with the carvings - why not...

But I need some help. I do not own a box mod and kind of need some spec drawings to show a carver what I need done.

Anyone mind sharing drawings with details of a good design? Anything I should consider if I attempt this?

More than one design would be even better - then they would not all be the same... All input is welcome...

I had thought of that and will use it as my last resort, but I wanted to make sure I was accommodating areas for switches, buttons, primers, atty;s, etc.

Also, I have seen a few good designs with angles incorporated where the buttons go and if I try this I wanted them to be unique and well designed so the people I give them to will have something to remember... They will kind of be one of a kinds - each different in slight ways... (carvings - shape maybe, etc.)...

Depends on what size batteries you are planning on using. And what style of mod you want to build. A 3.7V with 14500 battery could be fairly small. A 5V or VV mod using 18650 batteries would, of course be much larger.

A 14500 battery is 14mm in diameter and 50mm in length (protected battery would be ~52mm). For a 3.7V you would need a box that would, in theory, fit two of these batteries side-by-side; long enough to accommodate the battery contacts. The other 'battery space' would be for atty connector and switch (& LED if you want). A longer, thinner box could be constructed with room on top of the battery for atty connector and switch.

The possibilities are endless if you're going custom :D

Let us know how this works out! And of course, we want pictures! :D

The biggest problem I will have in making this work is time and finding a good carver. This area that we are going to is way out in the boonies - actually it is past the boonies - when you get to the boonies you turn left and keep going. No Internet, no TV, limited radio, no cell phones, etc. Only about one third of the people have electric and in most cases that is one or two lightbulbs and a fan. I have seen some of what the locals do with old style blacksmithing and I have seen a lot of hand made tools (some carved), but do not know if what I will want will be available - but if it is the possibilities as you say could be endless.

I just do not want to have these things made and then find out the design is only good for a paperweight. They would not make good gifts - I would have just wasted my time and money...

Thanks for what you have given already and I am already taking notes. I have already downloaded a lot of pics, which I will carry with me to show, but anything else ya'll can provide will also be appreciated...

If you look at the suppliers area reosmods give you the dimensions of their boxes .Maybe you can use those as reference to size . One thing to think about when using exotic woods is some of them you are not able to transport into the US . Im no wood expert by any means but i was watching a show one time that was working with exotic woods from other countries they were illegal to bring into the country . Might wanna check into that
