Hi everyone...

I hope someone can help me or at least point me to the right thread. My friend was raving about the electronic cigarette and how it has cut down his smoking considerably. I have seen a guy at my local mall in Palm Desert, CA plenty of times that sells them in one of those carts next to the food court. The brand is actually called "E-Cigarette."

I decided to pay him a visit thinking they would cost about 40 bucks. To my surprise he told me they had two packages, one for $120 and one for $150! The first package came with the smoking device and some cartridges that I could choose what flavor I wanted. The second package was more expensive but I forget for which reason. The reason I was so surprised was because my friend had purchased the "Volcano" brand for $80. It came with 2 electronic cigarettes and cartridges. Almost half the price and twice as much!

When I told this to the mall cart guy he immediately began pulling out all sorts of props and charts. He showed that his brand had a full guarantee that would replace your cigarette if it broke. He also said that his product contained 0 anti-freeze and that all other products contain high levels of it. He went to say that his brand, The "E-Cigarette," was the only electronic cigarette on the market that was approved by the FDA. Finally he said that the owner of the company is the same person who owns Ferrari!

Is this guy full of it? Has anyone heard of this brand? I definitely want to get an electronic cig...but I want the best brand at the fairest price. I told the mall cart guy that I am a pretty savvy shopper and that I would do some research. He said that he would see me soon.

LOL! Yeah, he'll see you soon...vaping ANOTHER BRAND! :pervy:

Yeah, he's full of it. NO ecig has been approved by the FDA...and none of them have antifreeze in them, but they DO have an ingredient in them that antifreeze has. Anyway...glad you didn't buy from him. :)

You can go to (I really need to write this down..) either cignot or altsmoke's site...I believe one of them has the 510 starter kits for $35. There are lots of other vendors on here, and they all sell various types. It's up to you which one appeals to you. I just mentioned the 510 because it's the cheapest one I know of right off hand.

For the price of the mall guys kit, you can get a few starter kits from vendors on here AND a month of liquid (if not more)!

Ok, here you go http://www.cignot.com/category_s/23.htm That's for the 510

(others beat me to it but I'll stick the post in anyway, LMAO)

I'm sure you'll get this from everyone but I'm here so....well....here? LOL

The guy's full of it, overcharging (if he's selling what I think he is and he more than likely is - cheap stuff you could buy yourself from a Chinese supplier for a pittance compared to $120-150) and throwing you a pile of horse manure as far as the sales speech goes.

There is TONS of information on this forum that can point you in a MUCH better direction and if you go down towards the bottom there's a list of suppliers that have a presence (and reputations) here. I'd say it's a great spot to do some serious "virtual window shopping" once you're a little more familiar with what you're looking for.

Right now the most recommended models I've seen are the 510 and the KR8 models (yes I know that sounds confusing right now but it'll make sense soon, I promise!). I have both (among a few others) and love both and if you made me choose between the two I don't think I could.

Read read read....then go looking for what you think is best for YOU!

And the next time you see that mall guy I hope you can wave a REAL PV (aka e-cig, etc, LOL) in his face.

Good for you to research first. As dawgcrazy says, he's full of it. An inferior product at an inflated price.

If you want to do some reading first before choosing a model to buy, there are good articles to read in the forum library at The ECF Library - E-Cigarette Forum. Read The Wonderful World of Vaping series if you want a detailed introduction, or read Buying and Using an Electronic Cigarette: A Primer if you want a shorter introduction.

Then to find a supplier pick one from the approved suppliers list at ECF Approved Suppliers - E-Cigarette Forum. There are no known bad suppliers in that list. Click on one you'd like to know more about and you'll arrive at their sub-forum. There you can see interactions people have had with them and get a better feel for the supplier. Go back to the list of suppliers linked above and click on the little text below the supplier name which says "Link to xxx" and that will take you to the supplier's website where you can browse and purchase something if you wish.

If you have more questions before buying, cruise around this forum more if you like reading - there's tons of information. Or post a note and ask.

WOW! I had no idea what I was getting myself into. There are soooooo many choices and sooooo much to learn. Well I like to learn by experience...so i think the 510 is a perfect beginner's choice. For 40 bucks I really have nothing to lose and I'm still getting 2 cigs. My buddy paid 80 so I'm totally beating him hahaa!

I just ordered off cignot.com (thanks DawgCrazy! I like your pic too...I just got a puppy 3 months ago). I'm not really sure what the difference is between automatic and manual LED...but I got 1 of each.

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate your responses and help. I let you know how everything goes when I officially become a vaper. I wonder how long its gonna take to ship to Southern California. Hopefully soon!

Cheers!

Thanks, and you're welcome! That's my baby...my puppy forever, even though he's 6 years old. :p Labs never grow up!

The differences between a manual and automatic battery are, the manual ones are closed/sealed off where they connect to the atomizer. The automatic ones aren't. Therefore, if your atty happens to leak liquid (which is really easy to do if you are using a cart mod and filling it full of liquid), it can drain down into the auto batts and ruin them, where a manual batt will be protected.

Another difference is that you have to push the button to activate the manuals. With the auto's, I've heard of people carrying them around in their shirt pocket/whatever, and just the movement turns the battery on, therefore draining it a lot faster.

Depending on how often you vape, you may need more than 2 batts. And if you're at a computer often, you will probably also want a usb passthrough.

Congrats on your first purchase!

I bet his company don't know he's telling people its approved by the FDA..the FDA would sure be surprised too. Maybe annoyed is a better word - actually 'about to sue him' might be more accurate lol
the 510 is a fun little thing - I love mine - but the battery life sucks big time. I got a PT for mine, but others who go out more often use a PCC or later on (once they know they like it) get a battery mod (which is jsut a larger longer lasting battery). All theinfo you might need is here somewhere. Check out the ECF Library thread for lots more info!
And welcome.

I did the same thing here I went to the mall because I was interested in the whole ecig concept. Same deal here the kits were $150 and up they used cartomizers which i don't perfer and he was full of outragous claims. You have apparently done the same thing as me and tried to reserch on the net and came across this site. this site has saved me hundreds of dollars and made my vaping experiance great! If it wasn't for this site I would have spent way too much mony on an inferiour product that didn't perform well and would have ended up switching back to analogs. I would say spend at least a week browsing this site and reading reviews before making a decision. I ended up going with the Joye 510 just because it seems to be one of the most popoular models and there is a ton of support on here for it. I am very satisfied with it so far.
