Many people start out with an eGo starter kit. In fact, they are probably much better to start out with than the usual cigarette-sized battery kits.

There is a link at the top of this page called the Info Zone. There you can find many articles useful for a beginner. This includes proper vaping technique compared to smoking, for instance.

What help in particular do you need?

Hi Jordan!

eGos are a fine way to start. I quit smoking with a 650mAh kit. I have since gotten more advanced equipment, but I still use those batteries when I go out - they are a great size. Soon you will vaping away, reading the threads and deciding what (if anything) you want to get next. It's much easier to debate a Spinner vs a Twist when you're vaping and not smoking.

:toast:

ETA: What did your kit come with?

I got the kit with 2 1000mah batteries 2 atomizer and some tank (I think that's what they're called). I read a lot things that said clearomizers are better so I ordered 2 cheap ones.

The nice thing about eGos is you can put all sorts of different delivery devices on them, since they have both 510 and "eGo" threading. I think you need to have 5 posts to read the blogs, but once you do, Baditude has a nice overview of different types that are available Delivery Systems

Thanks for all the help! I'm just wondering. Is there anything else I need to purchase or specifically need to know before starting?

Liquid ;)......

In case you're not familiar with it, this is what the threading looks like and a couple of examples of things you can use with them:

You did order juice for your clearomizers, right?

The video I uploaded above shows how to use an eGo battery, but also demonstrated another type of "tank" system. Clearomizers are a different animal. Here is a video that shows how to fill them:

This is the eGo setup that I often recommend for new vapors: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3706-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html

There are other juice delivery devices that you can use on your eGo besides a clearomizer. Below is a link to an article I wrote that is a picture dictionary of the more commonly used ones:

Any good places for liquid? I think the stardust is actually one of the ones I bought! I bought some liquid from freedom smokes but just kind of guessed on what kind I needed. What does pg and vg mean? And how do I know how much nicotine I need?

Thanks again for answering :)

How much did you smoke? It's what you need to consider when ordering nic levels.

Roughly:
pg = propylene glycol; it's what (also with the nicotine & flavoring) gives most of the throat hit and taste
vg = vegetable glycerin; it's what makes the vapor plumes

I would recommend a fan fav sample kit from Mom and Pop Vapor Shop. The kits are pre made with 6 flavors at 18mg of nicotine a bottle. That should give you an idea of what you like so you can take it from there.

I think you did just fine, ego batteries are in many of our collections. Good call on the clearomizers, at least you will have more than one delivery system to try. Like Ocelot pointed out, once you can read Baditude blog, do so. And don't be afraid to ask questions, all of us started somewhere, and most of the people here are very friendly and helpful. You already have two helpful and experienced people willing to help, Ocelot and Baditude.

Best of luck to you.

I smoke about a pack a day and so ready to quit! My stuff should arrive tomorrow and hoping tonight was the last time I will buy a back! I almost don't even like the taste anymore but still having one seems to relax me! I bought a mental juice and watermelon!

I just edited my post, at a pack a day 18mg is probably a good place to start, but everyone is different. I smoked 1.5 packs a day, and started at 12mg because I hadn't found ecf yet and picked the strength that looked to be in middle. My reasoning was that if it wasn't strong enough, I would just vape more. That strategy worked in my case. It's not a bad idea to have a couple of different strengths on-hand - higher for when you're really craving and lower when chain-vaping.

Most people consume 3 - 5 ml of juice a day. Most juices will come in a 50/50 pg/vg ratio. Most of the custom juice vendors allow you to choose either more or less of the pg or vg as well as the strength of nicotine. Some will even offer a choice in the flavor strength.

I also recommend ordering sampler packs from new juice vendors if they offer that. This can save you money in the long run in case you don't like a particular flavor and then have a 30ml bottle of juice you may never use again. Once you find a sample flavor that you like, you can order more in a larger size.

Finding a couple of juice flavors that you enjoy is probably as important as finding the right gear setup. It's hard for experienced vapors to recommend a flavor or a vendor as taste in juice preference is extremely subjective. Just be aware to not chase the idea of trying to find an e-liquid flavor that will taste like your cigarette. It can't be done. It's impossible to re-create the taste of burning tobacco and smoke. And once you have quit smoking, you'll realize you don't want to vape that flavor anyway. Believe it or not, vaping can be more enjoyable than smoking ever was.

I have found that I personally prefer juice vendors that use all-natural, all-organic flavorings. They just taste more flavorful and accurate, never having an artifical taste to them. The below vendors sell these:
