The only blue county in Texas!
So, I did my research and decided to go with the Joye 510. I ordered a kit with one automatic and one manual to see which I preferred. I watched a video on inhaling techniques while I waited for everything to charge. The results are mixed. I am not getting much vapor at all on either model. In the videos, people are blowing out impressive plumes of vapor, I've got more of a trickle going. I also want to turn my husband on to this but he tried it a few times and said it burned his throat and lungs. I'm trying to encourage him to keep trying. I'm also going to keep on truckin' because if I can get this to work, it will really be worth it. So, does anybody have any tips for a newbie? How do I get more vapor? Did I just choose the wrong model? We are doing like the video said and taking long drags. (the automatic doesn't really allow for that though). Any help would be appreciated as I really do want to replace the crappy, smelly smokes with these.

Oh- also, about the liquids. Are they supposed to really taste like the flavor they are i.e. vanilla or are they supposed to be just a hint with a kind of weird, smoky, burnt taste mixed in?

Thanks!

Normally the atomizer will start to perform better as you use it. Give it a day or two.

Are you using prefilled cartridges? These usually put out a relatively low amount of vapor. You can look into modding them with different types of filler material, or just upgrade to cartomizers, or just use the dripping method.

Juices range in how good they are, some get good reviews, some bad. The burnt taste again might be from a low quality cartridge, or just a low quality juice.

I'm new to the forums myself, but boy have you come to the right place. These people will have you exhaling clouds of vapor our your ears in no time, the knowledge base I have seen is beyond any I have found anywhere else. May we both find answers to our questions and never touch tobacco again.

Welcome to ECF there is allot of info out here and allot of that will help answer questions. Allot of the juices taste as describe that I have found. Some juices you have to leave them open for about a week so they steep and gain their full flavor and shake them well before use. As far as getting the bellows of vapor I found using more VG in my juice mix helps allot.

Welcome to the ECF. The burnt taste also may be that your atomizer is dry. If you are using a cartridge, try letting waiting a few seconds between puffs to let the atomizer wick more fluid from the cartridge. Also ensure you are not out of fluid in your cartridge. Try dripping a few drops of liquid down on the atomizer and then take a few drags to see how that tastes. Also since you are using a 510, try taking a few small, quick starter puffs before taking a long drag. Should help you get more vapor out of it. Also just try dripping on your atomizer, should get both better flavor and vapor that way. Just have to play around with it till you find what works. Good luck and happy vaping. :)

Good tip about the type of fluid Ed. One of the "pros" of VG is more vapor production.

If you want a lot of vapor, definitely try dripping directly onto the atomizer, and then vaping through an empty cartridge or a drip tip. I just gave dripping my first attempt with some Thin Mint flavored juice. Dayum. 4 or 5 hits had me feeling like I just tore through a strong analog.

Thanks everybody!

I am using the prefilled cartridges that came with the kit right now but I also ordered a sample pack of different flavored juices and one full size strawberry by Liberty Liquid. I've only been using it for about an hour so haven't really messed with the cartridges or the juice yet. I just panicked with the lack of vapor because, as all of you ex traditional smokers know, that's a very important aspect and I really need my husband to like this! I will definitely keep at it and keep perusing this site. I already found it immensely helpful when I was researching which is why I signed up! I do love a helpful community!

So, I will open up my juices and let them steep, and try one of the juices instead of the prefilled stuff. Do I need to clean the atomizer before switching flavors?

Ed W - is the battery you're talking about the mega battery?

Thanks for the welcome!

When I switch flavors I just "Dry burn" the atomizer for a quick second. Don't do it too long or you could burn it out. Just take off the cartridge and hold down the button until you see the coil slow, or if you can't see it, you'll hear it sizzle a little bit. I've done this and haven't noticed any bleed-through of my flavors, but if you do it over and over again I suppose it would eventually start to taste bad.

The mega battery, as far as I know, is longer, but still slim "cigarette size". The next step after that is "fat batts" like the eGo battery, which are no longer the size of a cigarette, they're bigger.

I use the VGO900 I picked up at breezesmokes.com you can go there to see what they look like they are close to a Ego. I am also using a box mod I picked up from madvapes.com I bought a put together 510 kit that also takes a 900MaH battery that is 3.7 volts the kits cost around $9.00 then you have to buy a charger and battery's I think it all came up to $27 with two battery's each battery will hold a charge with good use up to 8 to 10 hours before needing a recharge. hope that helps
