Brand New Vaper!

I'm actually not even a true vaper yet. I've been doing my research for the last couple of weeks after trying to quit analogs cold turkey and failing pretty horribly. I'm 99.99% sure I'll be trying my hand at the Smokeless Image Volt. I've heard pretty good things about it and I need something I can keep in my pocket at work.

If anyone else has started out with the Volt, was it enough to get you off analogs? I know it is different for everyone.

The Volt is ok but it is an 808 threaded device so it won't be compatible down the road if you upgrade (which is ok if you want a small stick battery) make sure you get at least 2 batteries because of their small size they do need to be recharged more frequently than the larger ego style batteries

get the Nano clearomizer with it (actually order 3+ because you will want backups) you can see your eliquid levels in these and will know when it needs to be topped off - cartomizers are solid and if you run them dry and get a burned taste you will need to replace it

Here is my recommended starter set for people serious about switching

Kanger Mini Protank 2 Starter Kit -VV

it gives you 2 high quality VV (variable voltage) batteries (which will allow you to dial in the correct voltage for flavor, throat hit, and vapor production - all important in switching successfully) and glass clearomizers which will bhe compatible with any eliquid out there (some flavors will "crack" plastic clearomizers)

hope this helps

and welcome to the ECF

I don't know anything about the Volt. But good for you for investigation Ecigs and wanting to make the move from Tobacco. I started out with the Ego batteries with the Kanger T2 tanks. That worked for me.
As long as you get a device that works you will be fine. Just make sure to find a flavor or two of juice that you like.
Do you have a local Vape store you could go to for sampling different flavors? That is a good way to find what you like.

Dakota Jim is right about compatibility. Almost everything uses an eGo or 510 threading; not 808. There's a good chance that you will upgrade soon; and when you upgrade you will have to buy everything all over again from the looks of what you're planning on getting. After I did some research I wound up buying a Joyetech eGo C Twist 1000 mah and a Vision Spinner 1300 mah with a Protank II and Protank II mini. (I don't think I'll ever upgrade. Some people on here make this into a hobby. Note the people with like 3 thousand posts in 3 months. I just wanted a reliable nicotine delivery device, not a 200$ toy to brag about.)
Just in case you decide to do what I did, I would highly recommend 2 Vision Spinners (one for use and one for back-up or to use when the first is charging). The Joyetech has trouble standing up on its on. When people walked by it fell over just from vibrations and broke my PT2 mini's glass (replacement was only like 3 bucks but still ... shipping and waiting sucked). The Joyetech is hard to read (Im 28 with 20/20 vision and I need to be in direct light to read the thing at night), the battery is smaller in power (life), the battery itself is taller and it costs 2 bucks more, so it's an overall loser IMHO.
Now, having said all that both of those batteries (a.k.a. mods) die because you can't pull the actual battery out and replace them. They do make replaceable battery mods, but those cost more. I can't recommend one because I plan to stop vaping before it would have been cost effective to buy one. I don't plan on buying more than 4 of the ones I've already bought (2 at a time) so I didn't thoroughly research the others.
I also recommend the protanks because they are glass and no juice will crack them. They are also bottom coil so they don't give dry hits. Plus they are pretty much plug-n-play (easy to use).
Welcome to ECF. Spend wisely and you can save a lot of cash; otherwise this could be a very expensive hobby.
Good Luck.

3bet has some good suggestions, I have the 1300 MAH Spinner and can honestly say I wish I had gotten it first. The Volt is well regarded for a cigalike, and Smokeless Image is a top notch vendor. If you are set on a cigalike, the Volt is a good little device and you can always keep it as a backup or for stealth if you decide to upgrade. You are on the right track, and I wish you the best with your new endeavor.

One bit of advice, don't get a lot of the same flavor, try different ones, many of us go for tobacco flavors only to find out later that we really like other flavors better. I started DIY shortly after I started vaping, focused on tobacco, later tried dessert and menthol and fruits, found out I really like a wide variety of things. I still mix and use tobaccos, but I am one of those people with about nine devices going at a time, all with different toppers and flavors, love variety when vaping.

I've never owned a Volt, I started with a Zeus and went on from there.

Like 3bet said, there's nothing wrong a spinner (or two) depending on what atty you plan to run on it.They'll run anything you want to use, just with various degrees of battery life.

While I have upgraded (MVP 2 and VAMO 3), I recommended to friends who wanted to kick the cancer sticks to get a couple of spinners each and just some 3.5ml DCT tanks to begin with (I leant them a couple while they waited for their order too). I couldn't see the point of getting them into some higher end gear if Vaping wasn't going to suit them and their gear just end up gathering dust sooner rather than later.

Along with everyone else's comments, good on you for having a crack at giving up the analogues. For me it's only about giving up a filthy habit and still getting my nicotine fix after trying everything else out there.

I hear all the time from some of my mates about how all I've done is change habits, and they're 100% correct. I've swapped an expensive stinky habit for a cheaper healthier one and love it.

Well put sir

Thanks so much for all of the help guys.

I know I'll probably get something a little bit bigger to use when I'm at home. I've found that the Volt seems to be one of, if not, the best small stick style ecig. Like I said, I need something small and concealable for work, so I figured I would go with the Volt first. I'm definitely planning on trying many different juices and at least picking up some clearomizers.

I am out of state working right now in a state that doesn't have a vape show, but I'll be moving back home in a couple of months and will have one.

Honestly, I was only a smoker for about 8 months, but that was plenty for me. Unfortunately I got myself addicted to the nicotine and I'd rather be just getting my dose of that and not the other thousands of chemicals in analogs. I can't ever see myself not having some kind of attachment to nicotine now, so I'd much rather be doing it with a little more peace of mind.

I will definitely check out all of your suggestions. I'm so new to ecigs and although I've been researching them for a while, I am just starting to really understand them.

Welcome to ECF! You'll get a lot of help here. I've heard a lot of good thing about the Volt. The 808 cigalikes seem to have more oomf then the 510's, or so I hear. I started out with a generic, variable volt, 650 mAh, passthrough, ego style battery and a generic bottom coil plastic clearomizer. The Ego type of batteries are the ones that are around the size of a Sharpie marker or cigar, and a clearomizer is a plastic or glass tank that holds the eliquid and contains a heating coil that turns the liquid into vaper. Passthrough means that you can vape while it's charging, and variable volt means you can adjust the power going to the coil to produce more or less vaper, flavor, and throat hit.

I found that the variable volt capabilities really helped me to resist cigarettes, even though my husband was still smoking and they were always around. When I had a craving, I upped the power. I smoked a pack a day for 16 years. Vaping was amazing. Definately don't restrict yourself to tobacco flavors. I started with cherry, and after a few days without cigarettes, I tried to smoke one and it tasted like burning garbage. I couldn't even finish the thing. Now, when I feel like I want one, I've got that memory in my head of how horrible it tasted. I can't believe I spent 16 years breathing that in!

If the Volt doesn't satisfy you, and it might as different people need different things, please don't let that discourage you from vaping. Go for a variable volt device. The Mini Protank II kit that a previous poster linked you to is an excellent starter kit that has everything you need, including a back up battery. Back ups are highly recommended. You don't want to run out of power and wind up buying a pack. Also, the Mini Protank II is an excellent clearomizer that I found to be the easiest to maintain out of all my clearos. All you'll need is a bottle of e-liquid, and you're good to go.

As has been pointed out, the SI Volt is an 808 threaded device and will not likely be compatible with future upgrades for home use. I would recommend looking at 510 threaded kits instead. Take a look at this one and see what you think ... Kanger E-Smart 510 Clearomizer Starter Kit - EVcigarettes.com

This kit is fractionally larger than the SI Volt, still making it very concealable in your pocket (it is a couple mm wider and longer I think). It will have a better battery life through the day, and should serve you well.

Anyway, it is an alternative to the volt that is in the same (rough) size range and will be compatible with an eGo later if you decide to upgrade.

Hi there, hope you become a Vaper. It's a healthy, interesting experience, that can even become a hobby, believe me ;)

If I were you I'd go for the Evod Kit, or the Protank, and at least 2 Ego batteries, a charger Ego, and a good bottle or five of different Ejuices. It's much more versatile, and you can use any device on the rechargeable battery. Don't get into those ready filled, out of date ecigs, like Volt and all the others. You change the battery after 3 hours, and the 400 puffs cartridges are not any where near that. Eliquid in bottles, and Evods, Protanks or the like, glass being better, is so much nicer, and you'll be able to try out different makers Eliquids, till you find your "perfect juice" lol . Which will probably change with the time...

There are lots of good Eliquids, and Evods are very easy and very pleasant to use.
If you take a read of in the Eliquid section, you'll find something you like the sound of. I find Mom & Pop's nice, at the moment. Try 18mg or even higher, like 24mg. You can lower once you get the ciggy out of your system :D

Good luck and Happy (future) Vaping. It really works, I did it, as did my 60 a day guy, for 1 and a half years+ now :p

Just a few weeks vaping myself, but loving it. Threw away my analogs yesterday (they laid untouched in my truck for almost a week). Thankful! I started with Blu...disappointed (no battery life and expensive). My simple (small, low profile set up) is working great for me: two Joyetech 510 manual batteries, Vision Nano Clearomizers, USB/Wall Plug/Car charger, portable charging case [pcc]. Around $70 to start. Bought from Shawn at www.zeecigs.com He has great customer service answering each call personally. This is working for me, everyone is different of course. Blessings!

I was pretty sold, but you guys are definitely tempting me to at least go with something that is 510 threading. I think that I got a little intimidated with all of the new vocab I've been having to learn. I'm going to check them out now though, definitely. As long as I can bring at least one battery and some sort of clearomizer/tank to work with me I'll be good. I don't have much opportunity to vape there, so I don't have to carry too much with me.

As far as vaping at home goes I am thinking that I need to get a good atomizer that I can drip on to and test out some different flavors.

Honestly, I can not wait for Christmas to be here so I can spend my bonus on my vaping. I know that it is going to help me cut analogs out for good and get me on the right track health wise. Now to just convince my boyfriend that this might be a good path for him. I don't think he will be able to resist once I get back home.

Thought it was just me who did that. :p I always have several going at once. I'm just not satisfied with just one or even two flavors all day...have to change it up!

I started out with the Volts, with the Nano clearomizers, back in May and while I liked them, I only got down to about 3 or 4 cigarettes a day, from a PAD. They just weren't quite strong enough or whatever for me and I ended up going back to the analogs. Then in October I decided to try again and got a couple of Ego batteries and Smok Aro Pyrex tanks, along with some T3S, and then a couple of weeks later an Ego Twist, and that is what did it for me. I have now been analog free for 3 weeks and I couldn't be happier!

Good luck with kicking the stinkies and welcome to ECF! It's a great place to learn!
