Yes, I think all more or less standard e-cigarettes are made by a handful of Chinese companies. And all of the popular ones are available under their original names at at US multibrand e-cigarette hardware vendors for reasonable prices. Some other companies rebrand them and sell them under their own name, sometimes in custom colors and logos to match their own desired look for their product. Unfortunately many of those companies jack the prices up by huge amounts - I have seen one place with prices jacked up 500%. Also unfortunately some use inferior models they can get cheaply, or use custom atty and their own one-use cartridges that can't be refilled.

So just know what you are buying, whether it is a good model, and whether you are paying an outrageous price for it.

This chart covers some of the rebranded ones, relating them to what model they are based on
Brand and Model Compatibility Chart - E-Cigarette Wiki

Some companies do a nice job of rebranding, like Vapor4Life.com - their model is actual KR808D-1 but they offer it in a lot more colors than the standard black and white, at reasonable prices and have a large selection of prefilled cartomizers for it.

Wherever you are looking, if they are charging more than $10-15 for a battery then go elsewhere.

Re non-Chinese e-cigarettes - there do exist some custom US-crafted non-traditional e-cigarettes (box mods, hand-tooled metal units, etc).

Really there is a bit more then just a few companies. Some are co branded though joye and janty are the same company. But there are more like bauway, slb ,hello ,riva those are just some off the top of my head they are different companies . They do copy each other though not much of a patent thing going on in china. Joye is considered top of the line or the first company to make them. They came up with the eGo design but alot have copied. So you might here talk about knock offs.
