Hello again Reoville.

I got a new REO about 2-3 weeks ago and ordered a brass RM2. It works just fine like the others, no complaints in the department but it seems to tarnish up pretty fast and look dullish/bronzish quite quickly.

I know that a product is sold in supermarkets and hardware stores called Brasso. It's essentially a cleaner or solvent that makes brass look shinier again. I really do like that shiny look.

I would only use the stuff on the outside of the reomizer. Do you all think this is safe or does it sound like a bad idea?

As long as you give good bath with soap and water to remove any residue it should be fine. But if you really like the shinny look polish it up with some fine grit paper and mothers mag, you can get it to a mirror shine.

What grit sand paper FB. Is it a stepped sanding process using different grit?

It's much easier if you do the step process, IF just go to ultra fine right away you'll leave some of the bigger scratches still in it.

I go 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. The more steps the less time needed at the higher steps to get a great finish. If you need to skip a step you'll need to spend more time at the higher step.

Mount it to a 510 extender and mount that in a drill. I use waterproof sand paper, I hold the drill on an angle with the RM2 down. a trickle of water coming out of the tap and running on the RM2 to keep it and the paper clean. Just keep it at an angle so the water doesn't run into the drill.

Takes about 45 minutes to go through all the levels to a mirror shine, Then some mothers mag to really set it off.

is this for shining an already brass RM2 or for taking a regular RM2 to brass?

i.....yaaa... (long pause)saw this thread earlier and thought it was to do with copper vien paintwork going dull and how to fix it... so I wondered off and thought i'd try one of these new wonder sponge things that you can use 'flash magic eraser kitchen scrubber', just add water and scrub, I had nothing to lose.... well after cleaning it and theres water on the surface of the door it looks nice and shiney how it first once was, as soon as the water drys off the surface it go's back to dull :(
so anyway I came back to read the thread again and I see FB talking about putting it in a drill etc etc ... I then continue to tell myself me I me ive lost the plot :( lol
well anyway has anyone got any tips for this now im here!? :)

whoever figgers out how to restore the copper finish on a tarnished copper vein Reo will have undying respect from a lot of Reonauts, including me.

i have 2 CVs from the classies. one is totally black, except a bit of copper shows around the catchcup. the other is maybe 1/2 way tarnished, depending on the light.

my third CV, bought from Reosmods is still pristine, but i stopped using it, until i get off my lazy .... and apply supertrunker's polyurethane coating fix.

that said, i don't regret buying any of them, tho it would be cool to be able to restore the copper.

I wonder if polyurethane would have the same results as the wet look?

I used to use a product called penetrol on many different types of paints etc and it makes dulled paints shiny. The stuff is made by flood paint I hate the owner with a passion but well the stuff will likely bring your Reo to a shine again dennis.

this stuff?
1 Quart Penetrol 410 QT - House Paint - Amazon.com

looks like it's not available in my (cough) beloved state. i guess too many braindead kids were sniffing it or sumpin...

Mine was a ? not a statement.

 no problem Filthy

after thinking about it though, if when I puddle water onto the surface it makes the paint clear, brand new looking then all i would need is a clear coat over the top to finish it like a lacquer

only thing around the house I could find was some silicone water-proofer spray for tents and umbrellas etc :D.. after spraying it I wiped it down to get the slipperiness off and it looks great but I don't know how long it will stay this way, we will see

I guess my original post wasnt all that clear.

I want to shine up a brass rm2. I dont want to sand anything down. It's already brass colored just looks a bit dull and I want to clean/shine it up, not take layers of metal off.

I figured I could use brasso ever 2 weeks or so as a maintenance cleaning ritual.

I use Never Dull on mine. It works well. If I want I do some Mother's Mag first. Both give good results.
