"The agency’s tobacco director, Brian King, notified his staff in an email: “It is with a heavy heart and profound disappointment that I share I have been placed on administrative leave.”

Dozens of other employees in FDA’s tobacco center also received notices Tuesday morning that they were being dismissed, including two entire offices responsible for drafting new tobacco regulations and setting policy."

When the 1st Agency Cuts were reported, I wondered how much the FDA and the CTP would be effected? And what, exactly, JFK might do?

Still Not Sure where ANY of this is going? Because it seems the Administration has been Extraordinarily Light on Details. Or what they want the Tobacco Industry to look like.

BTW - Since the CTP's Operating Budget is almost entirely made up of Tobacco "User Fees", to the tune of about $700M/year, isn't the hollowing out of the CTP and turning it into a "Shell" a Big Win for BT and BV?

Or are the User Fees still going to apply at the current levels?

I don't think it would be a big win for BT. They depend on the FDA to reduce their competition. If the CTP stops enforcing their regulations, BT might be in serious trouble.

I don't think the govt would kill one of its cash cows without some way of 'keeping it alive'..

Yeah... As I understand it, the CTP submits what it say's it needs for the next year to congress. And if it is Remotely Reasonable, they allow the CTP to charge that in User Fees.

I mean, what does Congress care? As long as comes out of BT (and now to a small degree BV) pockets, no one is Cry'n River over the cost.

I dunno?

Seems like just about All the Major Players are Gone. And what is left still has to deal with State Reqs and Flavor Bans.

You could be right. I dunno either, but it could be interesting to see what would happen with no federal enforcement. I seriously doubt that will happen though.

I don't think Anyone really knows where we are heading. Even those in the Administration. Everything is Upside-Down and Sideways. And what Isn't in the Courts is Probably headed for them.

Considering the recent crackdown on Swedish Snus and our inability to get it imported, this could be a very good thing.
