First of all, why I bought it:

1. VV/VW is mandatory IMHO.
2. I want replaceable 18650 -- most power, batteries are cheap.
3. I love my Vamo but it's too long to carry around. I dropped it several times, including once in the snow while hiking in the woods (amazingly I found it a few days later when snow had melted -- worked as before, but still). The box design is a natural choice IMO. It's easy to pocket, doesn't roll off the table nor tip over. I saw someone cutting the Vamo in the middle and then placing two sections side by side with aluminum end caps -- that'd be the perfect mod.

Now on to VTR (best price I found is on fasttech.com):

1. You've probably heard/read it. Yup, it's HEAVY. I don't mind the heft, but it's on the limit. Doubles as a self-defense weapon. Will fit in shirt pockets but probably would tear it apart.

2. It's SOLID, literally. It feels like a solid brick of stainless steel. If you ever fall into water, throw this thing away first! I'm sure I could pass this to my grandchildren. This beats the old AT&T phones as the new pinnacle of over-engineering. And I like it.

3. Controls/features are basic but have all I need. I don't want useless fancy features such as changing voltage/wattage by shaking. Changing between VV/VW, reading voltage/wattage/resistance, and fire. Battery power is shown via 3-colored light -- digital readout would be nice but I don't miss it. That's it.

4. I like pretty much everything about the design and manufacturing. Vivi Nova clearos fit well, though a little short -- the top cap is inside the protective ring of VTS. You have to unscrew the whole clearo, then the top cap, to refill. I've broken a few clearo tanks and tips when Vamo fell. This probably won't happen with VTR even when I get old and drop it due to lack of sheer muscle power.

5. The only tiny negative I have is that, as seen in a youtube review, the toothed wheel base where you screw in the atomizer is supposed to be free turning. Mine doesn't. Does anyone know if it's safe to force it loose? I'm fine without turning it, though.

(As pointed out by commenters below, the wheel is changed to fixed position in December to resolve an issue with incorrect ohm reading. Glad I didn't have to find that out myself. And thanks for pointing it out!)

6. Oh, even the box is over-engineered. I took out the foams, left it on the heater for a couple of days (there's a slight smell), and use it as the perfect case for all my ecig thingies.

7. Odd shaped/sized atomizers are no concern since it comes with an ego/510 adapter so that the atomizer can be mounted atop the unit.

Overall, highly recommended. I wish all 18650 mods are in the box design -- and they really don't have to be this heavy.

Thanks for the write-up! Though you state it as being heavy, I can't quite seem to get a feel for the size of it from the pics I can find of it. Is it something you can palm and use for stealth vaping?

Thanks,
Blackie

Consider yourself very lucky! As Pyro213 notes, as of early December, the spinning wheel 510 connection has been fixed and is now stationary to resolve a serious issue with incorrect ohm readings, reducing the VTR to VV use only and preventing successful VW use entirely (from what I have been reading). I posted what I had found yesterday on this issue on another thread:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...134-itaste-vtr-post11891250.html#post11891250

And I've just read more today that makes me glad I haven't bought one (yet) before knowing what (and what not) to look for. The stationary 510 connection wheel is a major fix.

About 4' tall without counting the tip/atomizer that may stick out from the top, 2' wide, ~1' thick. You can palm it, but "stealth vaping"? Depends on how stealth you want it I guess...

I'm sure with proper miniaturization of components inside it's quite feasible to reduce the height by 1' and the width by 1/4' (and the weight by a ton). That'd be PERFECT.

I agree with Ref Minor that the recessed tank is a great design.

Thanks for the info, pyro213!

Thanks for the reply. Just ordered one! Hope I get one with the fixed wheel as well.... Ordered from fasttech so hopefully I'll get the updated version as well.

Another question for you, if I may. What type (brand) of battery are you using. Will the panasonic 18650B 3.7volt 3400maH batteries work?

Thanks again!

If you ordered from Fast Tech, you should be getting the "2nd Gen" version, as posters in their discussion forum for the VTR are stating that they are now receiving the fixed wheel version. One eBay seller specifically states in his listing that he is selling the newer VTR version. I'm thinking about buying from him just to be sure I get the newer one ($75 w/ free shipping), but can anyone tell me if there is a manufacturer's warranty for the VTR? Some people are reporting very lousy customer service from Innokin.

Recently bought mine from 101vape.com for $65.00 plus shipping.
Quick service, latest version & flawless.
Highly recommended if in stock.

I'm quickly finding out that there is quite a bit of price difference between vendors, for many different things. I wish I would have known what I know now when I started vaping. And not just prices, but equipment, accessories, etc. Which wasn't that long ago.

Still, having spent more than I could have had I been better educated from the start, I'll still make out over the long run. Not to mention that I have gear to fall back on should anything happen to my preferred setup. Much better than having to go back to analogs because my one piece of gear failed and I would have to wait for new stuff to be shipped.....

My VTR arrived at the end of November from FT and I've been using it happily ever since.

OK, it is heavy, but not overly so. It sits comfortably in my hand, thanks to the one rounded side, and I really like where the button is. In size it isn't bigger than my ipod, although obviously it's thicker and heavier. It really is solid and beautifully made - the esthetics are perfect for me.

I use it all the time with a recessed Eternity dripping clone, which is now protected enough for me to take it out of the house ... The only thing I don't use is the iClear 30s, now replaced by the KFLs I have.

So for $71 at FT, I would definitely recommend it.

Could you please tell me what and Eternity dripping clone is, as well as a KFL? I'm afraid I'm very new to this game :)

Sorry about the jargon!

The Eternity clone is a clone (sorry again) of the Vision Eternity dripper. This is the one I got from FT: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0...ity-electronic-cigarette-rebuildable-atomizer

It's an excellent dripper, in my opinion, and beginner-user friendly. I put different drip tips on it, so its height is better n the VTR. I liked it enough to buy 2 more.

The KFL is the Kayfun light. It's too big to be recessed on the VTR, and since it is rather heavy in itself, I use it mainly on the MVP2 or the SVD.

I am to the point that the VTR + Eternity and the MVP2 + Kayfun are my setups. I have lots of other stuff that is underused or not used any more that may soon go to new homes. :) That's a pretty good feeling!

Thank you for the education! So much to learn.... I'll get there and still analog free!

I like my VTR mostly because I can drop it in my front jeans pocket for portability.

I don't like the lack of a display showing the voltage of the battery. Yes, the green, yellow, red LED lights are an indicator of the state of the battery but I know exactly where I stand with the MVP 2 and my SDV and even the wife's VV V3s when I leave the house.
