I have been lurking these forums for quite some time and I'm at the point where I'm interested in an APV setup. The only problem is I don't have a whole ton to spend, I don't smoke anything beyind cigars and hookah so this would be a thing I do casually. Does anyone have any reccomendations for budget builds? I was considering going mechanical but a lot of people reccomend against that for newbies. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

For something casual like this, an APV may or may not be overkill. I am happy as a clam with a Kanger VV battery using Kanger Mini-Pro tanks...it's my go-to for most of the day, but then again, I'm not a casual user. I have APV's and mechs too...so that kind of gives you an idea that's still a valuable setup, even if you grow into it. Mech's do require a learning curve...it's not that it's impossible to learn...but an APV is just going to be all around safer. If you just want to fire and go, an eGo or APV setup is the way to go.

You haven't told us what your budget is, so it's difficult to make recommendations. You'll want to make sure to budget 2+ heads so you can switch flavors out quickly and easily. You'll also have coils/atomizers that you'll want a handful of for replacements. If you get into some APV's, you may have to budget batteries as well.

If you have time, you can get some decent gear from fasttech. It'll take a 2-4 weeks+ to get to you, but it's the cheapest you'll find. They carry Innokin gear, too.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend the iTaste SVD from fasttech, with a couple of Protank 3s. Be prepared to wait anywhere from 2-4 weeks for shipping, and unless you want to end up with a risky clone only buy from there if it has authentic in the title.

Also, get your batteries from someplace else.

I got the same iTaste/PT3 combo from there though, and other than the shipping times I'm really happy with it.

I was considering the SVD for a mod actually, seems to be a pretty good choice.

The main reason I'm eyeing an APV is because it seems to I can fiddle with it the most to get it to my liking, I'm shooting for an experiance that's a cross between vapor and hookah. I'm not planning on getting a setup for a good month or so...money is a little. My budget is most likely in the $50-$100 range, preferably closer to $50 than $100 lol. What do you mean by "safer"?

No reason you can't use a mechanical, you'd just need to invest more initially (mainly gear to test your batteries for voltage, and/or a ohm checker for your coils)

Not to say you shouldn't go for one, of course. It's up to you.

I've recommend any of the above. I got a Vamo V5 kit (batteries, a tank, charger) for a little over £50 a few months back. I'm happy, and was my first steps into a regulated mod.

I felt safer going for a regulated mod initially, and am now considering an mechanical. It's entirely up to you though.

The MVP comes highly recommended also and is less hassle than a Vamo as the battery is internal, so no need for extra batteries and chargers.

Choice is quite literally yours :)

Hope you pick something that suits your budget and needs

A mechanical won't shut off when your battery is below a critical voltage, a regulated MOD will.

Also, a mech mod will fire any coil it's hooked up to, regulated mods have set limits on how low you can go.

Getting protected batteries can help, but a mech mod won't tell you what resistance your coils are, or will it care what state your battery is in, it will just fire away. A regulated MOD offers a little more protection in that it checks ohms and won't fire if it's too low, and will try to stop you using a battery that is below a safe working range of volts (which can ruin batteries)

Disclaimer - I'm not a Mech expert - far from it, but this is what I think about them. They are simple devices, but there's more on you to check things like battery life and coils - something a regulated MOD tries to take care of on your behalf.

:D

I would go with the MVP2. It lasts a long time between charges. Plug it in each night and you are good to go for the next day. Look for a deal under $40. The iClear 30 that it comes with is ok as well. You could always get something like a Kayfun Lite to put on it. You can get one from Fasttech for about $15. Just takes 2-3 weeks to get it.

itaste vv v3.
budget passthrough battery with vw.

you will probably find a kit with itaste vv v3 and an iclear 16, iclear 30 or iclear 30s at a budget price.

Isn't the MVP the one that can charge my phone? It looks pretty neat, I can charge it via USB right? That would be a big plus.

Yep - I'm eyeing up an MVP2 - looking at this one

It can charge other devices apparently, which would be handy. Main reason I'm thinking about this is it's so hassle free. I'm constantly charging backup batteries for my Vamo and carrying spares, this one seems good for over a day and it charges via USB - passthrough too, so can vape while it's on charge. It looks like a seriously good bit of kit.

The only downside I can see is I don't particularly like the style, and once that internal battery goes, you need a new unit (not seen anything about being able to swap them out for a new battery, I might be wrong)

Still though, for the price, it looks like a no brainer.

The MVP2 comes with a 510 connection that should work with a Kayfun Lite.

I've used neither mind you, just reading the specs on both and they would suggest to me that you would have no problems (stand to be corrected however)

Shop around, also, as stated - the link I gave was not the cheapest you can acquire that MOD - was more for illustrative purposes.

Hope you enjoy your vapemail! :D

Yes the MVP has an output usb port yu can charge yur phone on .

Yes it charges via usb, and you can vape on it while it's charging; it does not take a replaceable battery; it is a high capacity passthrough battery itself.

If yu buy a battery tube like a vamo svd sid zmax evic vtr e-ltc provari, you also buy batteries for them; and for most of those you wouold need a separate charger, except the evic and e-ltc

theres a few other tubes ... tesla..

Yup once the battery dies eventually, you need something else.

The smaller version of it is the VV V3; just smaller capacity (and can't charge yur cellphone off it.)

I'm really digging the MVP v2 after reading up on some review. I've been meaning to buy an emergency phone charger anyways so I would be killing two birds with one stone. Do you know if the MVP's are compatible with things like the kayfun lite?

the kayfun like most other tanks come wth the 510 thread interface;

all the popular batteries and tubes come with 510/eGo thread interface.

Of course, it all depends on what you consider "on a budget," but I think $100 is about the minimum to get into an APV. You need the APV of course, but also a tank, batteries, and a charge.

I got my Vamo v5, Kanger Protank 3, a set of AW 18650s with a charger from VaporDNA all together for about $100. I honestly don't think you can do much better than that.
