Built my first coil

After a few weeks of some R&D I finally went to my local vape shop and bought a rda clone (Patriot, after my Nimbus was a fail). Since my Hana has not been delivered yet I am still using my MVP, so I wanted to build a 1.8ohm coil. Wrapped 28 gauge 11/10 around a 3/32 drill bit and set it up on my Patriot clone. Wicked it with some 100% organic cotton with no added crap that I don't want. Tested it on my ohm reader at 1.7, not too shabby for my first time. What surprised it it actually looked good! This is pretty easy stuff, I was scared at first. Granted I am vaping on a MVP, I got noticeably larger clouds, and its just fun. This is going to turn into a hobby very quickly when my Hana arrives.

Sorry to toot my own horn by starting a thread, I know this is child's play to most of you, but I am a little proud of myself and gosh darnit it was fun!

I'm with you! I got to do my first "real" builds on a rebuildable a little less than a week ago. Moving to 28 gauge, from 32 for EVOD heads, has been awesome.

But yes, I've got the bug now. I'm already scheming on a Fogger purchase since the KFL went so well.

Congratulations. Sounds like you did a great job. Isn't the vapor difference amazing? I love it.

I've only been building for about 2 months now, and I still get a thrill and feel proud with each one. You get much more proficient and quicker as you get used to it. Now it's not an event anymore when it's time to rebuild a coil. In fact, just today I had one I needed to rebuild. I was trying to wait until wednesday and I was going to do all of them with fresh builds. This one just decided it wasn't going to wait. I took the top off and was going to just replace the wick (cotton), but then decided no, needed to do the coil. Pulled all the stuff out and had it done in a couple minutes and all put away again. No biggie. I love doing it, one or five, and I love the fresh, new coil vape. no more worrying about replacement heads, or having to replace entire cartos/clearos... when I need a new build, I build it and am right back to great vaping.

I'm with tamiP! Been building for 9 months and still get a good feeling when putting in a fresh coil. I recoil way more often then I need to because I enjoy rebuilding and the fresh vape.
I usually spend 20 min to tear down, clean, recoil, and rewick.

Congrats! I got bit by the rebuilding bug 2 weeks ago, bought a kfl+, went back the next day and bought another one. A week later I bought a stingray and a tugboat rda. Then on friday I bought a sentinal m16 and 3 more drippers.

I'm having a great time building coils! Have fun and enjoy vaping at a whole new level!

Nice lol, the first time I attempted to wrap a coil for my Igo-L I think it read at about 6 ohms, it was loose as ..... and I barely knew anything about about wrapping coils.

I have a question, please pardon my noobness, are there any tanks out there that allow you to build your own coils AND have a tank for your juice? I wouldn't mind having that ability in my arsenal.

Zach when I tried a coil on my nimbus, my actual first build read 4.9 ohms, then the slightest touch, even a hair touching it, it would move anywhere from .5 to 3. Finally I reallized that my nimbus clone was garbage, the allen head screws were very hard to tighten how I wanted and the posts holes were crooked, so I don't put the blame entirely on me. Went out and bought a Patriot clone, with phillips head screw posts, and this made things a lot easier for me.

There are tons of what are referred to as RTAs (Rebuildable Tank Atomizers), more often called RBAs (ReBuildable Atomizers), in contrast to what you've got, an RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer).

The Kayfun/Kayfun Lite are exceedingly popular, and quite awesome - I'm using one of the many clones (EhPro) now, and loving it. I have my eye on the Fogger v4, but it'll be more of a pain to build, and might not work so great at only 15 watts. I'll be the judge of that though

There are two style of tanks really prevalent today.
Kayfun: decently easy to build, but a bit trickier to build and wick than most RDAs.
Genesis: top coil, a bit more difficult to build, and most likely will leak if left in a non upright position.
I say start with a kayfun style, like a kayfun light plus v2 clone. Eciggity has them with the hole drilled out for more airflow options.

Thanks everyone for the info, this forum has helped me tremendously.

So I just got my Hana Modz in the mail, have my battery sitting next to it, and I want to be 150% sure I put it in right. The positive side of Sony VTC4 batteries are the smaller of the two ends with a little black ring around the silver area. The negative side is a completely flat, larger silver plate, correct? In almost all stock pictures where the battery is standing upright, the negative side is on the bottom, and the positive side is on the top, correct? Somehow a 30 min google search has turned up nothing. Once again, I apologize for my oozing noobness, but I am treating this mod as if it is my first child.

You are absolutely right. Flat bottom with large silver color contact is negative. The top of the battery has a slight indented ring around the outside. The picture I provide shows the positive side up, and the negative side setting on the desk.
