brand spanking new and thought this would be the best place to start for answers...

I just received my first rta (herakles mini) I installed dual 24 gauge kanthal coils in it and am using it on my arctic dolphin 210. my device is reading the coils at .31ohm which i figured was fine for what i wanted. i started the wattage low at 30 and progressed till it was at 60 where i felt i really liked it. I pushed it a bit higher to see if it would be any more flavorful but as soon as i went above 60watts my device gave me "voltage too high" i reduced a few watts and still got the error message i went all the way back down to 40 and am not getting the message anymore but its not that warm and the flavor isn't as good as 60. i am a noob so take it easy on me I just want to know where i went wrong.

Batteries are likely imbalanced as you're using one new and another with some use already. If they are not married, you will be limited to what the "weaker" of the two can do (simplified). I would start with new batteries of the same make and model. Always keep them as a set and charge them together. Are you using an external charger?

It could have been partially caused by a loose connection if your coils were no longer coming up as .31ohms. For example, if you had it set at 60W and with a loose connection the reading suddenly shot up to 1ohms, the voltage the mod calculates from those numbers will be a lot higher. If it was still reading the atomizer as .31ohms (or thereabouts) when you were getting the error message, then that is unlikely to be the problem.

I won't harp on this because you seem to understand but PLEASE make sure to get a married set of batteries as soon as humanly possible. Given the difference in age of your batteries I would be tempted to advice not using them together at all, but if you can't manage that then yeah... just ASAP.
