Whats up everyone.

Over the past week i have upgraded from my Itaste VV 3.0 to a telescopic mechanical mod. I kept things within budget and purchased a Kamry K100 with a Trident V2 clone from tobeco for my RDA. Im currently using it with an 18650 batter.

Now with this being my first mechanical mod. I had my first build yesterday. I wrapped dual coils as close to "micro" as possible. I dont have a torch yet so i used the heat and press method by firing it. I used 30 guage Kanthal wire with about 9 wraps for each coil and it gave me 1.2 ohms. Not sure if thats ballpark where it should be but i continued to wick my coils.

Now im using 100% organic cotton and i rolled it up and tucked it through. Proceeded to saturate the coils with some juice (TNT from time bomb 12 mg of nic). After the 2nd or 3rd vape all i could taste was the cotton.... And when i took off the cap the cotton was all reddish by the coils. It didnt look like the cotton was burning but almost as if the juice itself was like carmelizing or something... idk but it just didnt taste right at all.

Is there anyone that has had this issue? I get this was my first build and im going to run into some issues but i didnt expect to run into this type of problem.

Thank you all

Your wicks got dry is all.

Couple of things...

1. The wicks only hold a few vapes of juice in them (the exact number varies with several variables) when you wet them, so you need to keep wetting them. Heh - welcome to the joy that is dripping.

2. You might have a wicking problem. Nine times out of ten, it's too much cotton. Pics would help us determine that.

Well my wicks are definitely not dry.... they were still saturated when i pulled them out. And the cotton was like this bright red where the coils touched the cotton. Not a brown or black like you would think burning cotton would look but BRIGHT RED.

Ive wicked it twice.. After the first time i figured maybe i had too much cotton so i cut back but then it did it again which left me wondering what it could be.

Does using 12 mg nicotine have anything to do with it? ive heard some people say they keep nic levels around 6 when using these types of mods.

I will rewick it again to see what happens and then post a picture if it happens again.

thanks for the response.

okay so i rewicked with smaller cotton strands. and so far so good. I always see people wick things with what looks like full cotton balls so i guess i wasnt aware that there could be too much of it. But right now its going good. I also swapped to 6mg juice. My coils dont burn red evenly but that will come with time and practice.

Thanks for the help!

Glad it looks sorted. Wicks can be wet at both ends and still starved in the middle (where the coil is). The rule of thumb is: when in doubt, less cotton.

As far as the nic goes, yeah, you'll probably want to step it down in a dripper, but because the throat hit is enhanced (and the nic rush), not because it causes burning at the coil.

And what a wonderful thing vaping is that I'd try to help a Bruins fan (check my location) :)
