I've read that many people boil the yarn -- I am going to guess it is to get rid of any chemicals from the mfg process. That might help you as well, Gummy Bare. Also -- I thought Peaches & Cream was a brand of yarn, I'd swear I saw some at Wally World that was ecru with the P&C label. Looked to be completely un-pigmented.

Yeah, its a brand. Everyone uses the white kind of it. I boiled it for like 20mins or more and it still had a bad taste. I guess a few things could of happened. Either the roll got touched or up next to something that tainted the outer edges of the yarn roll and thats all i pulled out to boil, or my tap water at my house is super super nasty (which could be it because i live in southern california), or i just had it way way to tight against the coils and was burning it.... which could have also been the reason since it was my first try at cotton.

I've had better luck with organic cotton balls... but it would be nice to get this yarn going considering i got like 3 football fields worth of it (all they had in white was the massive roll at the time i went in).

Thanks for clarifying, Gummy Bare..... when I do get some I think I'll waste the first layer or two of yarn since there does seem to be a multiple lifetime supply in one skein. Wonder if boiling in distilled water would help? Then I start to wonder where using this stuff gets to be too much of a hassle compared with yanking a piece of cotton ball off and making a wick...lol.

Yeah, I though I pulled the top layer off pretty good and threw it out... maybe I need to go deeper, there's definitely enough to spare. I got some distilled water for DIY, so maybe I'll give it another go this weekend.

I wonder if my ultrasonic cleaner would do anything to the yarn... I got the cheaper one, so it doesn't heat up or anything like that. Heat might be the key in cleaning these cottons.

I have never seen that kind of "Peaches & Cream" that your using .... EDIT (I see that it's a Walmart store-brand of yarn)

The kind I use is called Lily "Sugar n Cream" and has no bad taste.

I believe this is what everyone that uses this stuff is buying:

So there is a difference between these two yarns being talked about? I was under the impression it was the Peaches & Cream that was supposed to be what peeps were using. Is the Sugar'nCream akin to the other one? I knew I should have taken knitting when I had the chance....lol.

I am no yarn expert, but the Lily 'Sugar n Cream' is what I have read most people that use yarn are buying. I bought mine at 'Michaels' .... two bucks for a medium size roll of it

All I can tell you is that I have never tasted a bad flavor from it, and I don't even wash it before making a wick with it ... I think boiling it would be a big waste of time.

Well, I can go north out my door and be at Michaels in ~5 min and same time south to Wally World so think I'll go to Michaels. I never did see anything but huge rolls at WalMart -- no need to buy a huge roll just to try something out.

Something I have noticed with my cotton wicks.....in a Russian every now and then I am getting what seems like a dry hit or burned wick taste. I'm using a coil made on a #46 bit, diagonally placed and level about 1 - 2 mm above the air hole. The juice is 60/40 PG/VG vanilla flavor. When I tear down the device the wick looks great with no signs of being too tight or being burned. I can't figure why I'm getting the lousy tasting hits.

I bought a huge roll of organic cotton yarn at a craft store, Michael's I think, for like $3. I boil it for 20 min, then drain, and repeat. Its important to drain, and not pull the yarn out of the water, cuz there may be something called "sliding" on the yarn to protect it. The "sliding" floats in the water, so if you pull the yarn out of the water, it will pick up the sliding again, negating the process of boiling it.

Hemp fiber blows cotton away fwiw....

The peaches & cream roll I posted a pic of is definitely the stuff a lot of people are using. I've never tried the sugar & cream. The peaches & cream is popular in southen California and my town San Diego. I know many people that use it and post pics of it on our local vaping Facebook page. That's how I found out about it in the first place. I even know a few people that vape it without even boiling it.

I believe I might have screwed up somehow when boiling or used the outer edge of the roll that was tainted during shipping or stocking somehow. I'm gonna give it another shot some day, but for now the organic cotton balls are working nice for me.

That mighta been were I went wrong with the boiling.... gotta try it the right way the next time. Or even give it a shot with no boiling, just raw.
