If you drip you can try to remove the wick. That will most likely solve the issue. Use a pair of tweezers and carefully pull the "stringy" material from under the bridge. Only do this if you have another atty handy. If the wick is really gunked up and stuck to the coil you can damage it and ruin the atty.

You might have burned the wick. Utube has videos showing how to dewick an atty if that is the problem. It might also be built up gunk in the atty, in which case you might try cleaning it. Several threads here on cleaning attys and everyone seems to have their own favorite method. I've tried burning and flushing with decent success, but you do take a chance of killing your atty when you burn.

It's probably time to wash the atty. That's why I alternate 2 attys. Every weekend I switch to a clean dry atty (after I prime it with some juice) and put the used one in a jar of alcohol (grain alcohol best but I use vodka). I swish the dirty one around a bit in the alcohol, leave in alcohol overnight, and next day I swish then take it out, shake out the alcohol and set on paper towels to dry. The next weekend I switch to that one.

There are quicker ways to clean an atty if you only have one.

The other thing to be aware of is - for me, after 4-5 days of use, normal white cart stuffing starts to taste bad and not wick well so the atty doesn't get enough juice. At that point I throw out the white stuff and switch to blue foam. You can buy 510/901 size precut pieces at StrictlyEjuice.com, Flavor Shop! or try to cut your own from marineland Rite-size U foam sleeve from aquarium dept of Petsmart.

I removed most of the wick (which was a HUGE pain in the ...) and it still tastes burned and gross. I think the addy is just ruined and it's only been a week I've had it. The wick had black spots so I'm assuming it was burned and contributed to it getting ruined. What is the point of these things if they just burn and it seems like people are removing them?

I did what this thing told me and broke off the bridge and that metal spring thing and I tried turning on the atomizer and it's still bringing up a disgusting burned smell like burning metal. I think the thing is just shot.

I'll just have to use my Smoking Everywhere until I can buy a new one.

Even if you do manage to get the burnt smell out that atty will only be good for drippy since you debridged it. I wouldn't throw it away quite yet, try soaking it in PGA for awhile then rinsing it and doing some 6-8 second burns. Rinse it again when you're done. You might be able to save that atty and have an emergency backup- at least you'll be able to drip with it. If not, it's not a big deal all ecig parts are expendables anyhow.

Get a 5 pack. At least you'll have spares when they go! And, unfortunately, they all die sometime, even if you clean them routinely..

You might want to try a pack of cartomizers too. I just buy the empty ones and fill them myself. I've had better luck with them than with the attys and carts. Although I do have a bunch of those as back ups. I stocked up at the beginning. Just in case. LOL

I like the mega/xl cartos the best. You can fill them up and they last a LONG time compared to the smaller ones.

I had the same problem with my attys when I started to vape abou 3 months ago. Then I discovered the wonderful world of cartomizers. I have several mega cartos from totally wicked for my ego and several low resistance 510 cartos from a local vendor in Orlando. They seem to have eliminated most of the flooding, burning, leaking juice aggravation I had in the beginning. Plus there pretty cheap from the right vendors. I pay 2.00 per low resistance carto from a local vendor and they last me 20-30 refills before they just don't vape right anymore.

Well, the wick is there to help draw liquid from the filler inside your cartridges.Although I have found the performance of an atomizer without wick seems just fine when using cartridges. The reason wicks burn is because atomizers are allowed to get too dry. Best thing to do to avoid this problem is flood a new atomizer and let it sit for say 10 minutes or so and then blowing out the excess before using it. This ensures that the wick is good and wet and it shouldn't burn as long as it isn't allowed to get overly dry.

If you drip the wick is really quite pointless. Oh and it is much easier to de-wick an unused atomizer than it is one that has seen a bit of use.

It sounds like some of the wick is still in there under the bridge or the plastic cup under the coil could have possibly melted a bit.

On a side note I really don't recommend de-bridging atomizers as they tend to leak much easier with the bridge gone. Just my Opinion though.

Anyway I hope this helps but if you can't get anymore of that wick out you could try an overnight soak in 90% isopropyl alcohol and letting it dry for a few hours and give it another try. If the burnt taste still persists it might just be time to toss it if none of the other cleaning suggestions in this thread work either.
