So i have a vamo v5 and a kayfun lite. 30 wire and 2mm silica. I have the same problems with my protank 2. but i dont use it much so i want to focus on my kfl. I just rebuilt a new coil, 1.5 ohms installed it, dry burned it, added juice, waited 15 min turned it down to 5 watts. Tastes good first 2- 3 vapes after that it tastes burnt, even at 5 watts.. I took it apart and dry fired the coil. Refilled it, same thing. I then built another coil same ohms but this time didnt preburn my wick, just the coil. Same issue, burnt juice flavor after a few minutes of vaping on 5 watts. That was with MTB vap juice. I tried again new coil, new wick, different juice, this time from mad vapes. I was able to start slightly higher but even anything past 6 watts gives me a burnt flavor. When i first got this setup I was vaping all my juices around 7-9 watts, now i cant get over 5. I want the clouds that came with the extra watts. Where did it go and why can i crank my watts up anymore?

A few points. Your coil sounds fine. Just keep it elevated and away from the insulator. More importantly, make sure you're not blocking the juice flow in the wells at the bottom of the lower base. This will prevent wicking and you'll get dry hits. Also with wick, less is more. You don't need a heck of alot particularly with a gravity vacuum tank system. Of course you need to find a balance between a fluffy minimal wick and the ability to block overflow. Experiment with it. I use a syringe to inject and remove my juice if I don't get it right. Now I know exactly how much wick to use and where to place it. Finally, try organic cotton instead of silica - Walgreens pharmacy (there's one in your town!) sells organic cotton in the cosmetics section for $3.99.

Let us know how it works out. Good luck!

No hope... No matter what i do, loose coil, tight coil, cotton, silica, it all tastes burnt. The only hope I am finding is to finger the airhole while i am drawing. I am guessing it is pulling more juice thru this way. I think I need to start ordering thinner juice. I took my juice and filled my tank 2/3 the rest I filled with water and it works great. No burnt flavor. Even going up to 7.5 watts. Yay, now I got good vape and the heat I am use too. Guess I just needed some water to put out the flames. hmmm. Thanks everyone for your help.

Could also be a hot spot on the coil. It happened to me a few times that the coil was fine but after a few hits and carrying the mod in my pocket the coil had moved slightly and I had a hot spot.

But most likely its a flow issue like others have stated.

Good idea, but still boil the cotton. Organic means the cotton was grown organic. It's still bleached and most likely treated with stuff you don't want to inhale.

That's not uncommon for mesh wicks on genesis-style RBAs, but I've never seen it happen with silica.

Have you tried troubleshooting using the Kayfun manual? I needed to go through this with some of my early KF (clone) builds, and it worked. I've been getting trouble-free builds ever since, and i'm not that good at doing coils. BTW I read the KF manual, haven't looked through the KFL one.
