Protank coils got ya down?
Unusual burnt taste coming off new heads .
It may be you received a batch of bad coils, as we did.
Here are some photos of a breakdown of the head and what we found to be the problem.

1) Left = Authentic Protank 2 head vs Right = Authentic (?) Protank head, from the blister 5-pack that comes in the aftermarket black box (not shown, I tossed it out a while back).

2) Out of the packaging. They look almost identical, but there is an unnecessary gasket on the aftermarket version. This gasket's proximity to the coil may be part of the problem, but removing it does not completely solve the problem.

3) Upon disassembling the head it becomes quite clear what is causing the problem. The coil is placed too low in the base, thus burning the rubber positive post insulator.

4) The bad coil is seated askew and 5 of the 6 wraps are 1-1.5 mm to low. It cannot be tweaked in any way to remedy it. :(

The only solution is to rebuild the coil head. It's not that hard to do and you will enjoy better flavor and performance. All you need is some 28 - 34 gauge wire and some 1-2mm silica wick or better yet, organic cotton yarn/balls. There are plenty of YouTube videos on 'Protank rebuilds' to help you along. It took us a few practices, but we can now knock off 12 complete PT head rebuilds in an hour. The improved vape is well worth the effort and the rebuilding skills will be handy when you inevitably get your kayfun !!

Hope this helps,
Good Luck... :vapor:
