I posted a note about the new head a couple weeks back referring to PBusardo's review. As for making
coils with no-res legs, that has been an option for a long while... you can
buy no-res wire (which is actually extremely low-res wire) and attach no-res legs to res wire/ coil and there are threads here about it if you run a search. Probably YouTube vids too. But it's a PITA so some people opt instead to simply double the legs back of regular res/coil wire and twist them to make the legs have less resistance and therefore less heat and less chance of scorching the grommet. I tried it and aside from being more trouble than a normal build, in my case it heated the rubber grommet enough to make it off-gas anyway.
The good thing about a
silicone grommet, however, is even if it's scorched or heated it won't add a bad taste or smell to the vape b/c it's inert material. So unless you're actually melting or burning the silicone grommet up, I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the vape is good. Especially if the silicone grommet can be replaced on occasion, as necessary, and I assume Kanger will eventually make them available as spare parts. Or silicone tubing might work as a replacement. (I have some coming to try that.)
All that said, e-cig technology is still in its infancy and clearly the way heads need to evolve, imo, is to eliminate the grommet entirely with a smarter overall design.
