Had my card info stolen once $175, had nothing to do with anywhere I shopped, but I learned my lesson. I now only use PP or a prepay card, like Bluebird from AA. If you get one online it's free and can reload for free at any Wal-Mart, maybe some other places too. Point is they can't take what isn't there.

MFS is clean. I've bought from them dozens of times--most recently last week.

Your problem might be in the network that the order was placed from. Or in your own device, even.

Agree 100% but there's always a chance of a sticky finger employee. Either way I wouldn't just call out a company until the card service gets it settled. Now if they card service says yes it was xxx place, then that's a different story. Now with a company that's been around a long time, I'd have to see the proof that the services said it was xxx company.

I do the exact same thing!!

As others have mentioned MFS is definitely clean, I've used them for years as have MANY MANY people here on the forum.
I would contact them, they have exceptional customer service.

Any and all companies can be hacked, look at how many large chain stores have had problems. It generally doesn't come from the store itself (can sometimes, of course), it's usually whatever service they use as a processor for credit cards.

If could also relate back to the whole Experian hack, my card got hit about 2-3 months after they announced it all. It was also a direct deposit card, so they hit it 30 minutes after the money was loaded.

Hundreds of online vaping transactions without a hitch over the last 5.5 years.
IIRC it's the card processing company that's usually the source of theft.

This is why a credit card is better than a debit card for most transactions. If they hit your credit card, it's the bank's money that's gone. If they hit your debit card, it's your money that's gone...

No CC company that I've dealt with would ever point the finger at a specific place....when I've been notified that they're sending me a new card as a precaution, because of "a security breach" with a processor or company I've dealt with sometime in the past.

Even if/when fraudulent activity has taken place on my specific cards...they'll tell me where those fraudulent purchases were made (which website or company), but...in each case, none of them were ones I'd ever done business with. There was also no information given to me as to where the actual "theft" of my card info. took place. They may have known, but wouldn't share it if they did.

That's kinds what I was leading to, you can't prove who did what. I'm sure there's some agreement where they can't tell a customer the exact details, probably tied in with some arbitration junk or something.

I think I've heard that about MFS before a few times. Whether it's their credit card processor or not, I do try to stay away from vendors that have had this issue and/or won't offer more secure methods of payment, generally. I'm not blaming or NOT blaming MFS particularly but if there's an issue at all it's another headache I don't need.

It is incorrect that if it is your debit card, your money is gone. It may be TEMPORARILY gone until the bank works through their fraud department and your card may be frozen if it's extreme or unusual however MOST banks will usually make things right in a very similar process to the credit card company.

This can cause headaches at times while money is refunded to the account, but the money is not "gone" at least not forever, but it is likely MORE of an annoyance than a credit card unless you keep cash on hand because it is "actual" money you are dealing with. But there should be NO hesitation to contact banks and debit card issuers concerning fraudulent activity the money WILL be returned, most often within 24-48 hours.

It seems you're responding to me on this?

I didn't say it would be gone forever. But for however long it is gone, with a debit card, it's your money that's gone, not the bank's. :)

Also, credit cards usually have other protections that debit cards don't.

That's why I love the bank I have now. 1 location 20 employees and $300 limit unless I call 1st or answer when they call me. They hold/pend all transactions 48 hours (unless retail pin use) and if I call to say not me, money doesn't go anywhere till it's proven I made the purchase.
