Buying My First Mechanical Mod: Panzer or Stingray X?

Hey y'all! Today, I'm getting my first mechanical mod and I'm kinda leaning towards either the Panzer clone or the Stingray X clone.

Currently, I have a Mephisto rda that can go with it. I'd like for the mech mod to match it's color scheme: stainless steel / brass. But that's not that important since I will be buying atomizers in the future.

So, Panzer or Stingray X?

Don't get me wrong it's a great mod and one that you may look into eventually but I wouldn't start there. The panzer is a very solid tried and true mod and much better to start with. It does have a bit of voltage drop but that shouldn't be an issue unless you get down to .2 -.3 ohms. If you do decide to go with the stingray x I would get some button top batteries to be on the safe side and check your 510 connectors to make sure the positive pin protrudes a bit so there is no chance of the battery shorting. Also the stingray has a floating center pin that tends to be kind of loose. If you want a good review of the clone look here Stingray X Clone Review - Mechanical Mod | Vaping Cheap

What was it that you hated about it?

My Panzer was also a clone. My first RDA was a Tobh atty and it would not sit flush with the Panzer at all. My Panzer did short and caused my battery to become unusable. Some people are a fan of the locking ring and some are not. I am one that is not a fan on the locking ring. Since then I have purchased one other clone mod and that was a Manhattan. It blew the Panzer out of the water.

I personally would not pick either of those to start with but if I had to pick I would pick the Stingray.

probably because you didnt have it adjusted correctly. I have a panzer black hawk and a tobh, both of which are clones and it sits flush and fires flawlessly.

panzer all the way. The stingray is a great mod but not one I would recommend for a person new to mechs. It has a tenancy to short out batteries with the hybrid connector and doesn't accommodate all 510 lengths.

The issue with some 510s is really due to user error; I've found that by putting atty on the top cap first, then threading the top cap to the mod body solves a lot of these issues, but as always, ymmv!

The stingrayX button is a crunchy little bugger, I despise it with every fiber of my being but some people like it I guess. +1 for the panzer

Sent from my Fuego

I did take the whole mod apart when I got it, to give it a good cleaning, perform the deburring that most clone manufacturers skip as well as polishing the button's shaft to a mirror sheen. Crunchiness gone! The real downside of clones is usually the time consuming finishing steps that are skipped. Fr my two cents, I would also recommend the Ehpro Panzer, as I've had a chance to look it over; excellent quality!

I just ordered the Stingray X last night. If I understood the previous comments and the review posted up thread, the risk for shorting is greater with the hybrid ring? Is is correct to assume that using a flat top battery with the normal top cap->atty connection will reduce this risk and that the hybrid ring is not strictly necessary?

Yes, you are correct. If I understand it correctly, the hybrid connector doesn't have an insulator. In that case you can reduce the risk of shorting out by inserting some kind of insulation material on the underside of the connector, though you still need to make sure that you have an atty with a sufficiently protruding positive contact.

The panzer looks like a flashlight. Not to be negative but it really does. The stingray looks really cool. I can't comment on functionality because I haven't used either. I have used a hybrid top and dented my batteries from over tightening the atomizer. So if you get a hybrid top mod, be careful not to over tighten.

Wow I was not familiar with the Panzer but it really does look like a flashlight, the Sunwayman V10r to be exact.

Thank you all for the reply. However, I ended up getting the Panzer mod and I'm enjoying it.

On that note above, you should purchase the Sunwayman and make it a matching mod-torch pair :p It is a great light to boot.

I love my Ehpro Panzer. IIRC, the whole mod concept started out with flashlights, so Its a natural.
That being said, its a, wait for it, a TANK. Ha, ha.
I can put any atty on it by putting the atty on the top ring first, then adjusting for the battery.
And my favorite part is that I almost never use the lock ring on it, the button is flush so I really don`t need it unless I`m playing with it. Its stands on it own and I don`t worry about it. And the pressure required to fire it is so light that I can use the tip of my pinky.

The one issue, its a tank and its really heavy compared to everything else I own.
