To paraphrase myself from some other thread: 'I don't freaking want to DIY juice. I'm a librarian, not a chemist. PB+J sandwiches are the extent of my cooking/mixing skills if you wan't to make it out alive.'

On the other hand, the FDA is NOT going to dictate frak to me and vaping 0 nic is NOT an acceptable alternative, tyvm.

So I finally gave in and ordered myself a liter of 100mg nicotine.

Not that it would last me forever, but I do feel much better now.

Happy almost-bday to me

You don't have to go for complex DIY-ing. You can always make it simple by using single flavors. Before you know it, you'll go "hmm this could go well with a couple drops of a little something". There's also some juice producers who sell concentrates of their flavors. I use concentrates from Mom and Pops.

Lately I've been vaping quite a bit of juice with only a drop or two of mint flavor. Very strong stuff, so a little goes a very long way. I've found I use less and less flavoring in general. Non-flavored is not for me, tho.

Here's a great guide to get you started.

I have half a liter of 24mg unflavored nicotine. I currently vape 12mg. I've dabbled a little with some very simple fruit flavors, but that's all.

Anyone know how long the big bottles of nic can last without being refigerated or frozen? I have mine on the counter and occassionally will fill a tank with some, add some unflavored 0-nic VG, and some conc. flavor. Will just being in the fridge suffice?

If you get USP grade nic liquid, it can go unopened and stored in a cool, dark place for a year or more.

Once you break the seal, you have about six months to use it.

I have a 250ml bottle of 36mg/ml nic that I'm using for my DIY projects. I just popped the seal Friday.

I've found that doing the math is easier with 36mg liquid, since my target nic level is either 12 or 18mg/ml.

Honestly, I think the "expiration" of nic liquid at any level of concentration is extraordinarily conservative. As long as you store the stuff properly, I don't see why the antiseptic qualities of the PG or VG base and the additionally antiseptic (and insecticidal) characteristics of unflavored nic wouldn't make the stuff viable for years. Yes, it may change colors as you introduce Oxygen and light to it, but where is that nicotine alkaloid going to go if it's stored properly?

It's like canned beans. Keep'em stored right and they'll last until the Zombie Apocolypse.

And, you don't have to be a master chef to DIY your liquids. If you have a baby medicine dosing cup and a few empty, clean bottles, then with any of the recipe managers out there DIY liquids are as easy as making a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese or Rice A Roni.

At tip to those that put nic in their fridge and freezer, always store in the lowest drawer or shelf. Accidents happen, and you don't want it to dribble onto other foods.

(same goes for pork and chicken)

Heh. Meats always go on the bottom. Vegetables and other potentially contaminable foods go on the top shelf.

I'm not storing in a freezer. The fridge is fine.

I just started into diy'ing last week. Since Wizard was out of 100mg nic base I got some 36mg 80/20 pg/vg elsewhere along with 80/20 zero nic and various flavors. My mixing method is simple but it works for me. KISS method. I marked off measured gradations on a 50ml bottle. Mixed in the unflavored 36mg nic and 0mg nic to arrive at 12mg nic 80/20. Finished with 15% flavoring. First attempt was pretty much the same as the premixed juice I was trying to mimic. Added a tad more flavoring. After some steeping time was even closer.

May not sound exactly scientific but yielded more than satisfactory results. Repeatable results are all that matter to me. So in the end, screw the FDA.

You pretty well nailed it. The expiration is more like a "best by" date. I found a bottle of 100 mg that I accidentally aged for three years behind a tool chest in my garage. I haven't done a nic test to see if it degraded but subjectively, that part seems the same. The changes I've noticed, it's darker and has more of a smokey taste to it now as well as more throat hit. Honestly for unflavored I prefer the aged base.
