Anyone heard anything about this?

I just had a Calif. based company tell me that they were told by the attorney general within the last two weeks that they had to call each California customer and by phone verify their name and birthdate and that the list was to be turned in to the attorney general.

Customer service could not or would not tell me more. It could be an invest on that particular company?

Also - is this something that CASAA (I hope those are the right initials) should be informed of?

I found out some more info guys -- It is a California law thing. California is working to enforce the "don't sell to minors" laws and is requiring sophisticated verification of age systems be incorporated for on line buying.

Apparently, there are some pretty high end computer programs that Big Liquor uses that will satisfy the California strict standards that the company is checking into. In the interim, the company is calling all their California based customers as a live verification is currently acceptable by the "powers that be".

ALSO -- and an important note -- the personal data will not be turned over to the State or anything like that. The state is just being strict on how one verifies and the "norm" being used in our industry is not acceptable to the State, per someone in power's intrepretation of current California Law.

Too Funny.

"Governor Moonbeam" was the attorney general in CA until recently when he became Gov. again --- Your pic sorta fits with his 70's name!

OT:

When I saw "CA Atty General" The picture in my mind was of a guy in sunglasses with coils on his hat and shirt collar instead of stars.

Sorry

Just to let you know -- it's only a temporary solution to do the calling thing. Somehow the magic of internet programs I know nothing about will be implemented and hopefully won't be a big issue with our vendors.

And katie -- just tell them your stage name is Cindy Lauper!

And, in actual fact, what one sounds like on the phone does not seem to be of interest in the least.

Whereas I am not saying that you are not reporting the truth, I do find it hard to believe that the cust. service rep told you the truth.

I live in California and have dealt with California based e-Cig, tobacco and Companies that sell Liquor. I have never had anyone tell me that I must be contacted by phone to give DOB information.

I would be somewhat leery of this company you are referring to.

I know the company being referred to here...they are one of the largest, if not the largest ecig companies in CA.
They were contacted directly by the Att Gen about this verification protocol.
It's because of their size and volume they were told to do this additional verification.

It is only something they only have to do for CA to CA sales...

I, with the help of another member, have done some research on a California Ban on the Sale of e-Cigs to minors. California SB 882. The bill basically states that sale of e-Cigs is prohibited to anyone under the age of 18.

Notice I said e-Cigarettes. Not just e-Liquids which contain Nicotine.

Perhaps this company is being singled out because the long standing view of age verification has been the DOB on the credit card used to make the purchase.
