Calix came in the mail today! Set it up with a 1.4 ohm spaced coil wrapped on a 2 5 mm screwdriver, 28 gauge kanthal. I used KGD cotton and put it in somewhat loose like Qorax vid. I'm running it at 9 watts and 3.5 volts. Flavor and vapor are not what they are in the videos I've seen. Vapor is really low and flavor is muted. Any tips for getting this thing going? It's my first build so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect yet. Using the indirect method. Not sure where the juice control needs to be for indirect either?
Hi, Congrats!

Here's some tips for you:
1. Pack the cotton a li'l tighter. Meaning, pls add some more material.
2. Take the voltage to around 4 - 4.2V.

With the same resistance (1.4 Ohms) you should find a better experience with the above two considerations.

I agree with Q. And if your ramp up times seem a little slow, you might need to try the microcoil idea as well. If i remember correctly, that was my issue with the spaced coils.

No worries. Do not fret. Not one bit. I am over the top confident that you'll get it and love it.

You should have some resistance in the coil with the cotton. Don't jam it in there, but should have some resistance.

Once you get it dialed in to your liking, it's just awesome.

I also wonder how loose or tight you have the air flow. Mine is pretty tight personally..

I just pulled out the cotton and dry burned the coil. I was getting that kanthal taste and no juice taste. I believe it was due to not enough wick but wanted to make sure. I followed the advice and put more wick in and bumped up the volts to 4.2. It's hitting like a fright train now but flavor isn't there yet. Much much better but not where I know it can be. I raised up the coil and now I'm getting alot of spitting and popping. How high or low should the coil be? Thanks alot guys and stanley, tomorrow I'm going to put a microcoil in it and try that. It's doing GREAT in the throat hit department and ramping up fine, so now it's tweaking for flavor. I've got the air flow about halfway. More airflow than I'm used to but I'm still messing with it, I've liked it open and tight but haven't been able to get the flavor up by adjusting it.

It's wise to keep our coils lifted up by 1.2-1.5 mm from the airhole. With any atty. The usual playing field is from 1-2 mm.

If a spaced coil us working well, and heating up quickly, no reason to go micro in my opinion. But as for flavor... You should definitely be getting good flavor, sp it could have to do with height? Listen to Q. He knows his stuff.

Here's my build. This is 2 days on Black Note Legato. It's rayon, but should ultimately be very similar to cotton.

I just yanked out the cotton and put even more in. It almost seemed like too much, but no problems so far. Also lowered the coil some.

Not sure if it's an issue or not, but have to unscrew the deck inside to get it to sit flush on the p3. So I cut my wicks a little longer to account for that.

No, that's how it works. First thread the base on your P3 and then tighten the SS cup :)
Also, as mentioned before, muted flavor usually means oversaturation. That's why more wick is needed. Raising the watts won't necessarily help :)

Has anyone ever had their Calix (510 elegance version) just randomly start leaking out the air hole? It has happened a couple of times now. Today got home from work take a vape or two, read up on a few threads, and realize that my hand is covered with juice. I have the juice control just barely open at all, 0-rings all look good. It is just weird, it has happened 3 times, 2 times at home, once in my car. The time in my car it was cold out side and I had it on its side, so I think that was the reason that time, but here at my desk in upright position? :?:

At what level was your tank when it happened?

I am not sure about the 1st time and the time in the car, but I think about 1/2 to 3/4 full, when it happened a while ago, it was 3/4 full, I opened it up and checked the wick and coil and they still look okay, so I topped it off at that point.

Kas - not sure what happened man. Maybe the deck piece wasn't screwed in tight enough? I'm curious. I never had an issue like that with my v1. This is night 1 with the v2 and all is well so far.

Couple more pics. I'm loving how light this combo is with the Ti Stealth P3 and the Calix!

It sounded like something that can happen when overfilled. At 3/4 full, that wasn't it. Did you check for any cracks on the tank that are not visible at first glance? If it happens again, you can send it back so we can take a look at it, without mailing charge of course.

So, what is the difference between v1 and v2? For some reason I wasn't using my v1 for 2-3 months now and just 5 min. ago I put a new build in and it works like a charm.
It's got side air flow and acrylic tanks vs the glass tank previously. You can also get the Caged Tank verizon which has glass rather than plastic if that would be your desire.
