On my local topix, I was sharing my story with Ecigs and its not going very well.

Would you guys be so helpful as to pop on there and post a sentence or two?

You don't have to register or anything, make you name be anything you want and post. :p

Here's the link:

"Electronic Cigarettes"- E-CIGS- They work!!! - Topix

I'd really appreciate if you would just share how you've quit smoking with ecigs. Or whatever you want to say. Especially in response to "confed", LOL!

Thanks!

Thanks, guys! (and gals, lol). I knew you would help!

In my little rinky dink town, no one knows what they are, and I'm trying to pass on the goodness. Its just hard in a place like this. This state is the tobacco capital I think, so that makes it harder.

Also, I think we all should share on our "other" forums. I actually got a friend on another board to quit smoking and start vaping. Now she's addicted to this site, too, LOL. Hi, FeeBee!

If anyone would like to share a link, I will happily post on it!

Posted. How's this?

<quoted text>Either way you aren't really quitting. Still trying to supplement the nicotine. If I am gonna go through all that B.S. like ordering some juice I think I would just go ahead with the Dr's advice, that is if I really wanted to quit. The patch is proven and provides the nicotine a person needs. Sucking down some juice that probably isn't FDA approved might nd up costing you in the long run too. In order for them to keep you hooked on the juice it is no telling what is really in it. Just another scam to jump in on all the money people spend trying to quit.

FACT #1: The danger in cigarettes is the SMOKE.

FACT #2: Nicotine, while addictive, is a mild stimulant with health effects similar to caffeine. Absent the smoke, it's about as harmful as drinking coffee.

FACT #3: Propylene glycol, the base of e-cigarette liquid, is GRAS (generally regarded as safe) by the EPA and FDA for human use.

FACT #4: E-liquid has been tested by the FDA and by several independent labs and they found no toxic levels of chemicals or carcinogens. TSNAs (tobacco-specific nitrosamines) found in e-liquid is comparable to that found in FDA-approved nicotine patches. They are up to 98% less toxic and carcinogenic than smoking tobacco.

FACT #5: Electronic cigarettes are not meant to treat nicotine addiction. They are meant to be a way to use recreational nicotine in a safer form than tobacco smoking. Other safer nicotine forms include smokeless tobacco, such as snus and orbs. No smoke = safer.

FACT #6: FDA-approved smoking cessation products, such as nicotine gum and patches, have only a 7.2% success rate keeping people from smoking. Most smokers relapse or use the products more frequently and for longer periods than recommended and almost 93% of them return to smoking.

FACT #7: FDA-approved doesn't mean safe. FDA-approved Chantix has caused serious reactions in hundreds of users and about 50 deaths.

FACT #8: In 2 years on the U.S. market and 6 years on the world market, there have been NO reports of serious illness or injury reported from e-cigarette use.

FACT #9: 75.2% of ecigarette users report that they have ceased smoking traditional cigarettes completely.

FACT #10: The American Association of Public Health Physicians Task Force, on the basis of extensive literature review and analysis, has concluded that a national harm reduction initiative, based partly on the potential attractiveness of E-cigarettes to current smokers, could save the lives of 4 million of the 8 million current adult American smokers who will otherwise die of a tobacco-related illness over the next 20 years.

If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will. :)

Well hey there B&K!!! I had to search your posts to see where you were at these days :)

I tried to comment quite a few times. Wrote a huge post (it just got longer & longer lol) but it never showed up :( Don't know if it just didn't like me, or takes time to show up or...

I learnt a lot in my few short weeks, so might as well share. Here it is:

Another EX-smoker chiming in.

The OP posted about e-cigs in another forum we are both on.

As a 2-pack-a-day smoker for 27 years, who has tried everything (cold turkey, patches, lozenges, gum, inhaler, wellbutrin x 2, chantix x 2), this interested me.

See the thing is, I REALLY enjoyed smoking, & the whole ritual of smoking. I quit for several months at a time, but always came back when I missed the 'habit' of smoking. Some lucky people who are able to successfully quit are only addicted to the nicotine, but unforunately, that's not the case for me, or for many other smokers out there.

I really had to quit, as my health was really declining. I was using an asthma inhaler more often, I was wheezing all the time & would awake nearly every day having a huge asthma attack. Then go & light a ciggy.

Tobacco taxes also increased here, & smoking in my country was costing me around $120USD every week.

Sooo, I ordered my kit, just to try it out, & without even having definate plans to quit smoking, I did. Literally right after I received it. It is the closest thing to smoking you will ever find, but so much healthier & tastier!

My breathing has returned to normal, no more wheezing or asthma attacks, & I very rarely need my inhaler. I am no longer inhaling 4,000 chemicals & many carcinogens. According to my family I 'no longer smell like an ash-tray', my sense of taste & smell have returned, there are no more dirty ash-trays lying around, & my new, much healthier habit only costs me around $15 a week. I can keep my 'hand-to-mouth' habit, have no fear of weight-gain due to quitting, & KNOW that I will never return to 'analog' smoking - I have no need to, this is a MUCH better alternative. I have eliminated all the negatives of smoking, but was able to keep the things about smoking that I enjoyed...the same things that brought me back to it each time I quit.

As for the 'BS of ordering juices online.' Well being female, I love shopping anyway, & have always enjoyed the anticipation of online ordering, & waiting for my parcel to arrive :)

There are literally HUNDREDS of juice flavours to choose from, & it's all part of the enjoyment. It really is a virtual smorgasboard, minus the calories!!! Vaping butterscotch caramel cheesecake right now om nom nom....

I am finally FREE from analogs. Free from the stress of 'having to quit for my health & $$' & from the sense of loss when I did. Free from the failure I felt each time when I eventually gave in & began smoking again. I'm free from the stinkiness, the mess, the social implications & the cost.

Yes, this is only a smoking 'alternative' but it is a far, far healthier one. It really is no different to those who enjoy their caffeine addiction - the ritual of their favourite coffee in their favourite coffee shop/chair at home/friend's place. E-cigs are a clean, non-carcinogenic & very enjoyable source of nicotine (or even no nicotine)for those who cannot/are not willing to give up their habit/ritual.

E-cigs are fairly new, but the 3 ingredients used in them are in everyday products - Propelyne Glycol is used in asthma inhalers, cake icings, baby food etc (yes, it is also an ingredient in anti-freeze, but then again, so are many other food-product ingredients) Nicotine we all know about, but by itself, although highly addictive, is non-carcinogenic & no worse than caffiene. The 3rd ingredient is food flavourings.

For anyone 'thinking about it' - give it a try. Honestly what have you got to lose? If it costs you a small amount of your tobacco $$ & you love it (as I do) you have a LOT to gain. If it isn't for you (& e-cigs aren't for everyone), well you have smoked a few less analogs trying it, then you give it to your neighbour/put it on Craigslist, & feel good that you may be giving someone else the best gift they have ever had...

Wow!!! You guys are the shizzle! (As my teens USED to say, lolI just can't keep up). TONS of you have posted!

And everyone has different stories, so maybe different people can find someone to relate to. And plus, it teaches me HOW to say the things I need to say to get the truth out!

Quasimod, it IS a lot harder. I don't understand people. To me, its a no brainer. And was from pretty much the beginning. If a person would spend 30 minutes to an hour doing a little research online, you would know how succesful they are.

I can see why tobacco industries and all those related don't want to "get" it, the almighty dollar, but for regular smokers like us, why are they so hard to convince?

Hey FeeBee! I am impressed with you girl! This girl went from analogs to a pro vaper in no time! She even sounds like an old pro, doesn't she? She's done so great! Feebee, I sent you a message on 2peas, yesterday.

Thanks, again everyone! Hopefully you made a difference!

Lol at the Rapid Vapor Zealots :D

BnC, when I saw your original post on Ps, & realised this could be *my* answer, I spent every spare second & way too many late nights researching. I learnt SO much on ECF - lots of very clever & helpful ppl here!

I lurve my KR808, but am now considering getting a higher powered mod. I don't like the idea of toasty cartos, but I would like equipment that is somewhat interchangeable with what I already have, so I'll have to learn more about various attys & carts to work out which would be best for me.

I seem to be having very little luck with PMs. Nearly a fortnight ago, I tried sending a really long one on Ps, it never went, so I sent another shorter one. I'm not sure that it went either, but I got a totally blank message back from you. The one you sent yesterday isn't there either?? Soooooo, I thought I'd try here, but there is nothing showing in my 'sent' folder. It's all very weird...

I can see why tobacco industries and all those related don't want to "get" it, the almighty dollar, but for regular smokers like us, why are they so hard to convince?

Because people have been trying to convince them for years that NRTs work, when they really don't.

Because it's easy to buy a pack of smokes at the store.

Because they have been assailed for years with "quit smoking" rhetoric, people telling them it's a matter of willpower. If it's just a matter of willpower, and you fail, what incentive is there to try again? Obviously you don't have enough willpower, so why should THIS product make any difference at all?

What you're hearing is people who have resigned themselves to smoking FOREVER. Those people have come to distrust and dismiss any quit smoking idea that comes down the pike because their experience tells them that nothing works.

It doesn't help matters when the antis tell people that those rotten vapers are just looking for a way to cheat around tobacco bans, or that e-liquid is some top-secret chemical formulation that is a big mystery to everyone except the people who make it, or that the FDA and alphabet soup aren't urging smokers to take it on as a way to reduce risk and harm. E-cigs still have that aura of being some sort of "As Seen On TV" product that couldn't possibly be as great as "they" say it is.
