Hi, I just noticed that Canada Post offers prepaid Visa Gift Cards up to values of $250 ... should be easy to come by since a lot of Shoppers Drug Marts have post offices in them ... I've used the ones from Safeway successfully online but they max out at $100 ... anyone used the Canada Post ones online?

With all this talk of CC fraud thru ecig vendors I've decided to never use my real CC online anymore. Prepaid or Paypal only for me.

I got a reloadable prepaid visa from money mart only because all my regular cards are maxed out beyond their limits :) and the usual place I get my juice from has issues with some gift card visa's.

There is a monthy charge and a small loading fee on mine, but so far it works great! I like that I can fill it back up with whatever amount I need when I need it and let it sit at zero balance when I don't need it. In hindsight I probably could have went to an acutal bank to get a better monthly fee but I was in need quickly.

I use e-transfers with my trusted Canadian suppliers as well. When that or Paypal is not an option, the gift card works well ... the ones I have used from Safeway allow you to "register" them online ... associate a name and address which I assume allows them to pass the security check when you actually go to use them on an e-commerce site ... the nice thing is you don't necessarily have to use your true address, or name for that matter, as long as you repeat it correctly during the online transaction ... kinda bothers me that when my CC information is stolen they probably are getting my name/address as well ... I'm thinking the shipping address information I provide to the online store, which would be real, would not be submitted to the CC processor so should be somewhat less likely to be stolen.

That said, the original question was whether anyone had actually used the Canada Post cards? ... FYI they also offer a reloadable prepaid card, but I assume that would require you to do a more formal registration process ... I don't need it enough to get yet another full time credit card. Cheers.

Semi funny story about fraudulent CC charges. I went to a Rockey Mountain Chocolate Factory one day and got some chocolate. I use my CC almost everywhere.... just because. 3 months to the date they ended up double charging me the exact same amount, with the exact same authorization number.

I noticed it and reported it and never had to pay for it.

Hello, I Noticed that you seem to be mistaken on your figures, re the canada post prepaid visa:oops:... I have gotten one, and in fact... the card with your name that you get mailed to you, just arrived today! :2cool:

The card has a maximum balance of 10k, the maximum load value per transaction, is in fact... as im looking at it(the card they mail with it) ... $500(cash or debit at canada post locations)

Maximum load value per transaction (bill payment from bank account is 2500.

What they do NOT tell you, is that.... You must wait for them to mail the card with your name on it(took 2 weeks) to you, before you can reload it for reasonable($3) if you want to load the card again, before they have gotten off there ...., they want another 15!

Not really fair on that!

But yes, i totally agree, it is nice to have, and does work well! I just ordered a 1litre of 100mg from the states(weeee,i had no issues with border):p

Just FYI re your comment of......:toast:

"I just noticed that Canada Post offers prepaid Visa Gift Cards up to values of $250 ..."

I've been lightly using a credit card for the past 25yrs & never had an issue, until, last week - wife, noticed $250 charges to Itunes in China - I don't own an Apple product & I am not Chinese. This was a newer issued cc & I had only used it in a handful of places - mostly for E-cig supplies. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone specific, but save yourself the hassle & just use EMT, cash or pre-paid CC.
