Just ordered my IPV4s from Gearbest and have decided to get some new batteries for it. Trouble is I can't decide what batteries to get. So was hoping maybe someone with more knowledge like Mooch or Baditude could help me out.

I've already decided to get a pair of sony vtc4's for when I feel like running a high watt build. But I'm looking for another set for running my everyday builds which run between 30 and 50 watts. My first thoughts go to samsung 25r's. I already use these and have been very happy with their performance but I've been looking at the LG hg2. The extra capacity is the main reason I'm thinking of these while sill having a 20a CDR.

So I guess my question is for in the 30 to 50 watt range would you go with the hg2 or the 25r?

I've been seeing Mooch suggesting the HG2 lately if you are in a certain range of watts, and you are well under the limit he posts, so if you are looking for the extra mah, it is a good cell for the purpose you are going to use it for at under 15amp limit

Thanks for the info.
I've been having a play with steamengine. I set the AVP efficiency to 95% which is about what the IPV4s is I think. Then I checked what the amp draw was right down to 3.3v at 50 watts and at 3.3v it showed I would be drawing 15.95 amps which still gives me 4.05 amps headroom when using the HG2. Of course that headroom will become smaller as the batteries age and lose some capacity so I may not push them quite as high as 50 watts when they start getting to lower voltage.

Before I sold my IPV3, I ran efest 2500mah 35a (20 amp) batteries. The board is handling the load so its not as much an issue like with mechs but I would use at least a 20a cell.

Also don't use the pair in anything else or separately. Keeps everything equal, helps batteries last longer and better for the mod too.

At 50W, I'd pick the HG2 and enjoy the extra run time versus the 25R. :)
It's not a huge difference, but it's there.

According to Mooch's advice, and I concur:

If using a high wattage regulated mod, use a 20 - 30 amp CDR IMR battery, which ever your mod's manufacturer recommends. The processor's amp limit determines the amp requirement in this application, not the atomizer resistance:

75W or higher, we recommend the Sony VTC4 2100 mah 30 amp CDR.

    40W-75W = LG 18650HG2 3000 mah 20 amp
Samsung 18650-25R 2500 mah 20 amp, green wrap if you can, blue wrap is just fine.
    LG 18650HE2 2500 mah 20 Amp CDR
    Sony 18650VTC5 2600mAh 30Amp CDR (* tested as only a 20 amp CDR)
    AW 18650 3000 mah 20 amp CDR (may be a re-wrapped HG2)

    Under 40W = LG 18650HG2 3000mah 20Amp CDR
    Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000mah 15Amp CDR
    AW 18650 3000mah 20 Amp CDR

Just get some AWT 40A and you're set.
