Aloha ECF! When I am using the Advanced Editor I cannot do carriage returns to skip to a new line of text. So starting a new paragraph is out... I can skip to new lines and do multiple paragraphs just fine using the Quick Reply box. Only have this problem making new posts (Like this one, can't make do a carriage return) or when I hit "Go Advanced" under a quick reply box. Any ideas? Mahalo!

Maybe I should just do all my forum gazing on my iPad and it will just solve itself then? :) To clarify, I am using IE10 on Windows 8 Pro. I know, Windows 8, yuck... I'm an IT manager, so I need to know more about everything than the engineers that work for me... Even this OS. :) To be fair, I kinda like it after using it for the last year, you can easily work with a lot of the things people hate. It's really a great PERFORMING OS. Perhaps not so intuitive at first, but the performance is outstanding. Back on topic now, any ideas folks? :)

Which skin are you using? Some have reported that switching to ECF-1 from their settings page has solved this issue. Personally I think it is related to a plugin because I do not see this issue in Fx, Opera ,or Chrome and have never been able to replicate it on any of the four computers I use regularly at home.

So a quick update. I am able to do carriage returns with no issues using Firefox on a Linux machine...

Any particular browser settings that would prevent normal operation of the advanced editor? Anyone familiar with the engine that's running it? Is it Java?

That would give me a good idea where to start poking around on the Windows machine to figure out what the issue is.

Thanks!

This is so dumb...

So it hasn't been working at all... I shifted IE to compatibility mode, and it started working...

Turned compatibility mode off, to verify that was the fix and revert to the old behavior, and now it's working again fine without being in compatibility mode...

I love computers...

@MrsCasey - Here are the steps you need to see if this fixes your husband's laptop:

1) Open IE10 from the desktop (Not the "Start" page) You can get to the desktop in Windows 8 by either clicking the desktop tile on the start page, or by moving your mouse curser to the upper or lower left hand corner and left clicking. (You should see a small preview of your desktop as you get the cursor in the corner of the screen). The IE icon should be on the task bar.

2) Once IE is open, navigate to ECF

3) Once you are on the ECF website, hit ALT to bring up the menu bar at the top of the IE window.

4) From the menu bar go to: Tools > Compatibility View Settings

5) In the Compatibility View Settings window verify e-cigarette-forum.com is filled in the Add This Website text box, and click the "Add" button.

6) Verify that e-cigarette-forum.com is added to the "Websites You've Added to Compatibility View" list box.

7) Hit the "Close" button. (ECF Should reload automatically at this point, if not hit the F5 key, or click the reload icon in the address bar of IE10)

8) Verify carriage returns function properly in the Advanced Editor (Creating new threads or by clicking "Go Advanced")

If everything is working, you can follow the same steps above to remove e-cigarette-forum.com from the list, and see if it still works.

I made this post in the advanced editor using IE10/Windows 8 Pro. Carriage Returns are working fine now :)

Thanks for the suggestion rojo

Go to control panel -> ease of access center -> make my keyboard easier to use. Make sure filter | sticky | toggle keys are all turned off. Might as well go into the settings for each and turn off all the hot key triggers while you're at it, whether that was the problem or not.

Does IE have a yellow triangle in the status bar indicating a scripting error?

Update:
Actually, now that I think about it, I had a similar problem on ecf a few months ago with Firefox and noscript until I allowed scripts to run from some 3rd party domain. I can't remember which now. But apparently the rich text editor is included from a different domain and not hosted directly by ecf. I bet ie10 blocks loading scripts from 3rd party domains by default. It's plausible. Try adding ecf to your trusted sites (tools -> internet options -> security tab, click the green check mark and click sites... Uncheck the https check box at the bottom before adding) and see whether that makes any difference?

I haven't messed with this for a couple of days, busy at work. Today I started hunting for a solution again...

Found this thread on the vBulletin support forums:

https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/413352-Win8-amp-IE10-with-vB4-2-0

Apparently there is an issue with CKEditor used by vBulletin which causes it to not work with IE10 / Windows 8. No mention of any upcoming fix. However, there is a workaround.

hit the a/A button to "Switch Editor to Source Mode"

You'll lose some minor functionality in source mode as opposed to WYSIWYG mode, but the carriage return will work again :)

Hopefully somebody over at vBulletin is working on a more permanent fix.
