On Monday I have to have a minor surgery. This means no water after midnight on Sunday. I have a one hour drive with no traffic. Unfortunately I'll be in rush hour traffic in Chicago, this can easily take an additional hour. I know the importance of drinking lots of water with vaping. I also know there is NO WAY I'm going to even try to not vape before my surgery. I'm currently vaping PG. Should I try to get a 100% VG this weekend? Or just keep vaping the PG and not worry about it.

VG is just as dehydrating as PG. If it's just two hours, and you don't vape too much, you should be OK. The problem is, you don't know if your surgery will be on time. I take it you'll be under general anesthesia, so you'll get your IV flluids as soon as they start getting you ready.

You can also have a couple of spoonfuls of water first thing in the morning, or suck on an icecube--that won't make a difference. But don't vape too much. I'd probably try to refrain from vaping just prior to surgery. Just to be safe.

Good luck.

Thank You!

It will actually be more than two hours. I don't go to bed until well after midnight and by the time I get up, showered and on the road it will be several hours without my normal large amounts of water. As far as the surgery not being on time, that is almost a guarantee. However, once I'm in the hospital I won't be able to vape anyway. Then there is the recovery! I can pretty much count on not getting to vape until late afternoon! However, I really want to vape and try to relax on the way there.

For some reason I thought PG was more dehydrating than VG. I won't worry about it then.

I wouldn't change anything, Anemone, and would vape what you normally do. A stressful time like this is probably not the best time to switch and try something new. Just stick with what you've got. :)

If your mouth becomes unbearably dry while vaping, remember that you can also swish water around and (discreetly, lol) spit it out to help keep your mouth moist. Some surgeons/anaesthesia folks are OK with sucking on an ice chip here and there pre-op; some are not and are big sticklers for the NOTHING part of Nothing per Os (NPO).

Just another idea...:)

I like the ice chip idea for my ride up. Thank you!

I recently had a procedure done and it wasn't actually done until 3:30 the following afternoon. I couldn't eat the whole day before and I couldn't drink one thing that day, I couldn't even have ice chips or mints.

Needless to say I had a serious case of dry mouth. I was so close to cancelling it because the closer it got the sicker I started to feel. I really think it was from vaping on an empty stomach.

I was one LONG day!

I don't know if your Doc would be ok with it, but Biotene is great stuff for dry mouth. I don't know how much it would help with throat irritation. You can find it at Wally World or pharmacy with the mouth wash and stuff.

Good luck!!!

I'm not going to ask him! LOL I will try to pick some Biotene up this weekend. Thank you!

I had a big surgery a bit ago and had no problem with no liquids and vaped right up until they took me in.

That would be awesome if I could do that. Unfortunately, I've had this procedure before and the surgical waiting room is full of nurses, doctors, and patients in hospital beds hooked up to IV waiting to go into surgery. I'm not sure how well that would go over if I got caught. I'm afraid if I asked they would tell me no. I haven't master the art of stealth vaping yet!
