I've been using rbas for a while now and can get a new wick and coil set up in under 2 minutes.. So I decided to get a dripper. And quite frankly, I can't get the damn thing to work right. Every setup I've done I will get a couple really nice hits but after that I get a really weird feeling throat hit and a strange flavor.. Anyone know what's going on?

2mm silica with 28 gauge kanthal (might have been 32 I forgot which wire I used) and the taste is not metallic. Just kinda funky.. I can't really describe it. And I've been putting about 10 drops of a 50/50 juice

Looks like 32g to me...

What kind of device are you vaping this on? (is that an EA in the pic?)
What resistance does that coil measure?
What kind of silica is that? (where did you get it, was it just sold as "silica" or is there more to the description)
Did you do anything to the silica before using it? (torch it, lighter burn it, juice burn it, anything at all)

If you're vaping that on a mech then you're probably just getting weak hits because of too much resistance from the tiny wire. If you're using a mech and you have some 28g I'd wrap up a new coil with it. If you're using a regulated device then I'd either wrap a 1.4ish coil with 28g or a high resistance with the 32 and crank the power up till it's good.

I'll try some 28 and report back. Hopefully that helps. And I got it off of ebay. I did torch it for a little. But I have a crappy 5 dollar torch that doesn't work to well

Based on the picture it's possible you are shorting the coils. They look like they are touching the posts. Don't space out your coils so far on the Igo-L. Wrap them fairly close and dont have them touching (unless you plan on making a micro coil in which you would do about 8-10 wraps and tightly bound the coils).

On 28 gauge kanthal I find the best way is to have about 3 or 4 wraps fairly close and all within the centre of the wick which puts them away from the posts, removing any risk of shorts. Sometimes shorts just stop your device from working, but other times it's disguised (for example, you've made a 2.0 ohm coil but it's fluctuating often and you will get high ohms readings followed by low ohms readings, creating an unstable wick and coil).

Never torch silica, never never never. That will definitely create acrid burnt flavour. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend dry burning your coils with silica as that will also cause singeing of the silica. After you have built a fresh wick and coil, apply 1-2 drops of liquids to the coils to test them to ensure no hot spots.

You torch the kanthal before you apply it to the silica. This removes some of the springiness of the silica to make wrapping more manageable and it also 'primes' the kanthal with some oxidization.

You do nothing to silica.

I have 2mm silica coming for my igo-l from myvaporstore. So we torch it before using? What do I do to it before I use silica to vap?

Thanks! I won't torch. You say don't dry burn? Thought people here said dry buring is ok with silica but maybe my memory is being weird. Going to read more than. I really want to try ceramic in the igo l. Just only worked with ss mesh so far but want to see what other items bring to the table and options.

Quality silica can be torched and dry burnt, however if you are using a cheaper silica then they will get nasty fast

Yeah, sometimes dry burning is necessary if you don't want to rebuild a coil after you've used a gunky liquid, but I try not to torch for too long. I have a stock standard silica, nothing flash, so I try and limit my dry burning.

After you get the hang of it, rebuilding Igo-L's takes less than 5 minutes and I find if a liquid has gunked a coil right up, dry burning will take just as long.

Just another peice of advice Marty - double your silica over but cut off the top strand on either side after instalment. That way you get a good thick wick where the coils are which will hold more juice, but you won't have too much silica sitting inside the well, which is a bad thing if you are using the standard air hole. Too much silica sitting inside your well will restrict oxygen flow.

You should get a delicious crackle in your wick when firing if you do it right.

Also, look up some guides on micro-coils. They work wonders.
