So,

I was excited to get my new authentic kayfun lite plus today, and thought i'd just screw it (gently) on my new provari just to see how it looked. It felt gritty and didn't go on smooth when it bottomed out. I took it off and noticed scratches and gouge lines on the provari's center contact pin.
I inspected the contact screw on the kayfun and noticed that the edges are sharp and not perfectly smooth. They acted like a chisel and simply scraped the pin. No way can I use this thing like this. It will destroy the contact pin on the provari. Ridiculous oversight on their part and unacceptable for a $100.00 tank.
Any suggestions or solutions to this? I will return it tomorrow since I live down the street from Vaperev store front and hopefully get a replacement with a smooth screw, but I am skeptical of this contact pin design. I feel it will still scrape. I might have to lap it or get a protective adapter like a hippo V2. Thoughts? I'm ...... off that my center pin has scratches now.

Ok. This is what happened to mine to after using a Kayfun lite plus clone. I sent this pic to Provape and this is their reply:

"The center pins are made from brass. Since brass is a very soft metal, it will show scratches and wear over time but these don't affect connectivity in any way. By using a softer metal it can help protect the base of your tank from being damaged.

The scratching is completely normal, but if you find it bothers you, we certainly can replace it for only $5.00."

I sent it in for repair as I was about to sell it. After getting it back from Provape I sold it with the brand new center pin. Not bad for a quick repair as i want to make sure the buyer will have a nice new pin :)

Why are you going to send it back? Just take some fine, 320/400, grit sandpaper or a fine file or a sharpening stone, diamond or other, and smooth out the screen on the Kayfun. You can also take that screw out so it is easier to work on to smooth it out.

Sending it back is in my opinion overkill and a little ridiculous.

As mentioned, remove the screw. Smooth it down using a fine file, or rub it against a piece of sandpaper laying flat on a table, or even use an emery board (used for doing finger nails). Does sound like shoddy manufacturing on something that costs that much!!

Damn right. My Kanger tanks are as smooth as butter and they cost 1/3 the price.

Well the EHPro clones I have of the Kayfun Lite + V2 had to have the center pin smoothed out some. I waited until I had it apart for cleaning and put back together before I smoothed out the center pin. Taking it apart and putting it back together can deform the screw driver slot on the pin. Which is what it looks like on yours. The high spots on the slot are at the ends/sides that a screw driver hits against when tightening.

I thought the same thing. Maybe it happened during assembly at the factory? I never had this thing near a screw driver. This is right from the box. I'll be honest. It bothers me a lot since I paid $100.00 for it. Thing should be perfect.

If you don't use a bladed screw driver of the right thickness, width of blade, the 2 points it contacts are the upper right and lower left sides slot, when the slot is viewed vertically, when you are tightening the screw . I have several screw driver sets that come with different thicknesses of blades and they also have different lengths of blades in those different thicknesses. So I try to find one that is the same length and thickness of the slot in that center pin.

I guess they changed the orientation of the hole in the center pin as it relates to the direction of the screw driver slot. Although i don't have the latest v2 pluses, I do have the regular lites and lite plus v1. In all 4 of mine the screw driver slot is 90 degrees off set to your pic. most likely yours is fine and is slightly different because it's the newest one but if mine were in that orientation, the airflow would be off. In any instance the pin is not adjustable but can be slightly tightened to get max airfow

In regard to the apparent damage on the screw, if the OP has never touched it with a screwdriver, it's possibly not quite as "new" as Moonbogg thought it was.

This is very true. Maybe they got it returned and resold it thinking the original buyer just didn't know what they were doing. I'd take it back ASAP.

Stop stirring the pot. The piece looks brand new and just needs a little TLC for it to perform perfectly. It happens. They don't manufacture the screws. They probably buy them from china by the caseload and you just got a rough one. It's a really easy fix like many have suggested.

I agree with the above. So during the assembly then used a screw driver that was a little small and in tightening that center screw they dinged up the edges of the slot. File, Sand, Hone it down.

I'm not stirring no pot. But if I pay 100 for something I expect it to screw on right. If not then she/he has options. How am I stirring the pot by giving an option which lots of people do. Taking a product back is a good option. Sure the OP could sand the screw down if that's what they want. But once you start working on it the store may not take it back. 100 bucks isn't something to just toss away. Sure, if it were a clone I'd agree. But if its not a clone and the store is right by her house then taking it back is a good option.
