I bought a usb adapter at Radio shack, plugs into my car cig lighter. Mine does not work either???

The guy at Radio Shack asked what I wanted it for, when I told him, he looked at me like I was nuts, then laughed.

What should I look for when I am buying one, (so I dont have to ask) :)

The main thing is the amp rating. On the output, it should have output 5V ???mah or ???A. Try to find one that is at least 1000mah or 1.0A. Alot of the cheaper made ones are .5A or 500 mah.

Even the 1.0A adapters have been tripping on my 510 PT, Kensington, so far is the only power adapter I have found that works with mine.

Alot of the time I have found its the quality of the adapter. The best one I have found for my vehicle is one made by duracell. It has output of 5V 750mah, which is only .75A. Hasn't tripped it yet.

I use my Kensington with my pt with no problems at all.

Sorry for the stupid questions but I need to learn. What do you mean by "tripping" it? Does it ruin the adapter or what? Is it like when you "trip" a circuit breaker? can you reset it?

Yes like tripping a breaker. It doesn't destroy the adapter/power pack, there must be a protection switch inside the adapter/pack that cuts off all current if too much current is drawn. It's only temporary, as soon as you plug something else into the adapter/pack that draws appropriate current, the adapter/pack works again. It just will not power the PT.

I just found this one on DX, it kinda sucks that I couldnt find one in my area.

DealExtreme: $2.58 Universal USB Power Car Adapter (1000mA)

I have a 1.0A AC/USB adapter that didn't work(tripped). I don't know if 1.0Amp is even enough. The only thing that works for me is my 1.5Amp Kensington(that I have found so far).

This issue is fairly big, I was under the impression that any USB adapter (at least 500mA) would work. I remember reading initial specs on this PT on a post several weeks ago(I think by PS) and it referenced a working rating of 5V at 500mA.

Actually it will reset if you unplug and plug back in the charging cord, then you are ready to go again. I'm finding as an atty is reaching the end of it's life is when you start seeing the problem.

I bought this at WalMart....Powerline 2 in 1 dual usb charger. This is all the manufacturer website says:

Keeping portable entertainment devices charged has never been easier. There's over 100 million reasons to carry a AC/DC Charger for iPod and iPhone, Zune, Blackberry and other compatible USB chargeable devices. Just plug in and charge up.

The PowerLine AC/DC Dual Port USB Charger allows you to charge two USB chargeable devices at the same time. No need for multiple, expensive adapters. Charge at home or in your vehicle.
Compact size is perfect for travel.

No Computer required. Charge your devices anywhere and everywhere. (USB cables not included.)

PowerLine Model# 90271

But I can't find any ratings on it at all. It has two USB ports and hubby and I each had a PT in one. It seemed a little weak when we were both vaping at the same moment, but otherwise seemed OK. Does anyone think this will damage the PT? I haven't noticed any problems so far..... :(
