I'm just thinking, it's enough that the media makes big deals from an electronic cigarette explosion. Finally I hear about a cigarette causing a car explosion this morning. But of course this won't do anything to help ban cigarettes but when an electronic cigarette explodes, that's when the hype starts that they are so dangerous. This world is a little twisted with it's belief system.

Um, that picture was truly terrifying. Thank god the woman's okay and it was only a Ford Focus! (J/K)

It doesn't look like it's being swept under the rug. Interesting that the aerosol is being blamed for the most part, not the cigarette smoking.

It's not news is it that people die all the time with lit cigarettes in bed? That's how my husband almost burned our house down. He wasn't smoking in bed, but he failed to put out a cigarette completely and it rolled down to the underguts of the house, and if the fire alarm hadn't woken him right up, I'm sure he would have burned down with the house. Everyone knows cigs are unsafe, surely? I think this is mainly "news" because of how the car looks, it's pretty amazing....

I just read the article. I have way to many questions I'd like answered.. Here are a few.......
"The doors, roof and windscreen were completely blown out of the Ford Focus in a "very loud bang". "
Was she seated (in) the car when it exploded?
How does anyone survive being seated (in) a car that looks like that after exploding?

Sharon managed to scramble out of the car after the windscreen hurled 30 feet into the air and all four doors blew off.
Wouldn't someone have been thrown/blown from the vehicle?
She added: "I was on morphine from the moment I left the car park so I had no idea of the damage.
Was she on morphine before the explosion?
Sharon Victoria Druitt , 51, went into her car after shopping at B&Q in Essex, UK, where she bought the industrial air freshener.
Who needs an (industrial air freshener)?
Was the said (industrial air freshener) intended for use in her car?
And the last question is for now.......
A woman escaped death in a DIY store car park when she lit a cigarette inside her car and an air freshener caused an explosion.
What is a DIY store car park?
I'd like the answer for 1 last question.....
She was able to hear the questions she was asked after being within a half a mm of a, " Very loud bang.. " ?

What is a DIY store car park?
"Car park" == British for "parking lot"
"DIY store" == I'm guessing like a home-improvement store, like Home Depot.

So a "DIY store car park" is what you and I would call "in the Home Depot parking lot."

The Paramedics who took her to hospital would have administered the morphine.

It's unlikely she would have been expelled from the car as the UK has a mandatory seatbelt law - so she would have been fastened into the drivers seat.

She didn't use the aerosol in the car. The industrial strength air freshener can was faulty so was leaking aerosol.

there are 2 main type of explosions... chemical in which the chemical components break apart and reform releasing energy ( the air freshener type) and then there is the more deadly aggressive type in which a chemical simply breaks apart into gasses creating a much more powerful blast ( nitro glycerin for example)... also, if in the vehicle ( as she was) the expanding gasses enveloped her and didnt create a strong pressure wave with enuf force to do her in... but it was still strong enuf to blow out the doors and windows.... she most likely shredded her ear drums tho...
