cart mod

Hi Guys I am fairly new here so please bear with me.
I have been looking threw the mod section and getting more confused so I am asking for simple advise, which cart works best.
I have tried the spring, ok but I am loking for something not as fiddly.
I have also tried cutting the poly to half an inch and refilly 3/4, not great.
Has anyone used the blue foam mod and what does that intale and where do I get this foam, many thansk in advance , great site

I did some searching for aquarium filter refills in Ireland and UK, couldn't find anything I was familiar with, but:

You might look for coarse filter foam in a pet shop which sells aquarium supplies . It must be untreated (no chemicals in it) and you don't want the stuff with carbon in it. Be sure to wash and dry it well before using in cartridges.
