I really like my IBTanks, but Valley View Vapes has less expensive ones if you just want to get your feet wet. I have a VVV economy tank going strong for over a year (although I recommend the ones with caps which cost a little more)

ECF Guru Baditude has blogs covering how to set-up a carto tank and additional tips. It starts here with the definition and pictures:

To make filling easier, just unscrew the screw, fill a syringe and with the tank on it's side, hole up, you fill the tank.
IMO a tank, is a tank, is a tank, it's what you put in it that matters the most! Ikenvape sells a tank for $10, put some of his "Punch" cartos in it and try it on the cheap. If you like it, then you jump in and class it up with something fancy if you like.
Punch! Cartos & Tanks I've yet to find a better carto to put in a tank myself!

With a tank tool as shown in Baditude's blogs, filling a regular carto tank isn't difficult, but the fill screws are very nice if you're feeling lazy. That why I always have at least one VVV in rotation.

And sawlight is right - a tank is just a tube. You choose it primarily for appearance (and if it has caps, grommets, fill screws, etc.) it's the carto you put inside of it that determines the kind of vape you will have.
