I am curious about this too. I'm lost. I want a lower end model [$$] that still works good & doesn't leak etc. I am confused about what cartos to use. Some are flanged & I wonder what that's for, does the flange make a difference & where does it go? I'm clueless about the whole issue & would love some advice & links to what exactly to get. D
Do people punch their own for the most part?

I mainly use 100VG so I need to know what cartos are the best for that.
Thanks to the OP for bringing this up, I've been going nuts trying to figure this out.

& thanks to anybody that can steer me in the right direction.

I'm currently using Protanks & Evods & they just don't give enough flavor although they do work fairly well. I would like to get the most out of a setup plus I'm going through vapers tongue at this time so maybe a carto tank may help in that regard?

I switched from clearos to cartos about 3 months ago and love em. There several choices you can make when picking out cartos.* Size (35mm or 45mm(xl)long), *ohms (1.5-2.0LR, 2.2-2.5standard or 3.0high resistance),* flanged or not (some tanks have a recess on the bottom for the flange to sit in. It reduces the amount it can move), *pre-punched(lazer ingraved) or not.Cartos in a tank need holes. Some people punch their own some buy pre-punched. It cost more $$. 100% VG will need 2-3 holes. *Dual or single coil. Dual coil gives more vapor and heat but drains your battery. Many seasoned vapers go back to single coil after awhile. Great vape with good battery life. You can buy cartos of every combination I listed above. It all depends on your tank needs and your likes. The tank does nothing but hold juice. Its the carto you need to focus on. Any pretty tank will do.

Since its the cartos you need to focus on ill say this. In my opinion there three main carto brands. Boge-tried and true staple of vaping. Been around forever. By far the most single coil carto vaped. Buying in bulk (25+) they can be bought for $1 each shipped (surevape and phoenix vapor)
Smoktech- good carto. Can get pricey. Specialized in dual coil pre-punched cartos. Often called DCT'S.
Ikenvape cartos. Only available on the ikenvape site. Ive hearf great thinks about them but have no experience with them.

My first carto tank was from IBTanked (19mm XL) and it has worked very well for me. I would recommend punched non-flanged cartos if you get the tank from IBTanked. The mega 510 platinum cartos from IKenvape would be a very good choice.

I use the Boge cartomizers (LR 2 ohm). An inexpensive tank to start with is a Boge F16 orF17. These are perfectly good tanks to start with. Once you determine if you like a carto tank then IBTanked and Phiniac both have very nice carto tanks that can be personalized to your tastes.

Somewhere Baditude has an extremely helpful blog on cartomizers and carto tanks.

PBusardo also has a nice video on carto tanks.

Carto tanks can definitely be frustrating at first. Priming the carto seems to be the first major hurdle. Filling and re-filling the tank can be a hassle, too, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

Honestly, it's not that hard to master. Sure, I went through maybe a dozen cartos before I got the priming thing down pat. After that, it was making sure the endcaps didn't pop off, or I didn't grab the tank and pull it from the carto.

You learn from mistakes. With carto tanks, either you keep trying to get it right, or you give up. If you gave up and it's not for you and you want to stick to clearos, that's OK.

Compared to the amount of research and trial and error you need with RSST's and RBA's, carto tanks are elementary. And anyone who comes along and says, "Rebuildables really aren't that difficult," well, good for you. Carto tanks are significantly less difficult than rebuildables.

I use a Phiniac rugged glass carto tank. In over a year, with the same rubber seals, it has never leaked once. They are definitely worth the money. I use both IKenvape Fusion cartos and Smoketec dual coil cartos. You will need XL cartos in the 5ml tank. The cartos last between 10 - 15 days before needing to be replaced in my experience. No muss, no fuss, no hassle, no maintenance.

If your carto tank is leaking, it's most likely due to user error. I have fourteen carto tanks, and none of them leak. Ever. EVER. They just don't leak. I can unscrew them and toss them into my tackle box and not a single drop is ever lost. The people who know how to use and handle carto tanks will probably say the same thing.

There is an inherent leaking in almost all of our devices. The biggest reason I've seen for leaking, clearos, cartos, anything, all across the board, is due to user error. Over-tightening, losing o-rings, over-filling, under-filling, leaving it in a purse or pocket or a hot car. Clearos and carto tanks HATE pockets and purses. Yet people keep abusing them and after a while they shift the blame onto the device and not their behavior.

I see it from an angle many on here do not. Day after day I see the same people coming back, complaining that their clearo broke. They blame the clearo. "It's a piece of s!" No, I own many and I take care of them. Accidents do happen, yes, but I do not blame the device. I blame myself. Things just don't spontaneously break. YOU did something to break it. Don't blame the device!

EDIT: My favorite explanation for an iClear snapping off from the base... "Yeah, I swear, as soon as you filled it for me and I walked outside, it snapped in half. Yes. It just snapped in half. I held it, and it just fell off. Yeah, it did. It just fell off."

Stop lying out of your lie hole, you lying liar!! ;-)

Carto tanks are a royal pain at times. That said, I like them. The Artemis tank is so far my favorite.

I started with the Artemas but dropped it for the FastTech tanks because they're pyrex and alot quicker to refill without that locking ring. You'll find after a few weeks of using a tank that you no longer need the locking ring and then it's just annoying.

I'm not sure what you all are referring to. With a Phiniac tank you simply prime the carto when new (20-25 drops of eliquid), put it in the tank, fill the tank and vape for 10 - 14 days without needing to do anything other than add eliquid every 24 hours. I don't know how you can get simpler, with no hassle, than that.
