Hi all. I've been dripping and using cartridges so far with my riva 510 and figured it was time to try a cartomizer. Did a bit of research and got some smok Tech SMK Dual Coil 510 Cartomizer 1.5 Ohm to try. But when I try to vape with them, I am getting a very low hit and kind of a burning/plastic-y taste. I filled the sucker up, let it sit overnight, no luck. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks all

Matt

What ecig are you using them on? If you are using them on an inappropriate battery they will either not get enough power or could damage the battery. Some will use something that low (with that much power usage) on a fat battery like Ego or Riva 510 and some will not. Many will only use something that LR on a mod. The 1.5 dual coils are not suitable for any slim battery - in general you stick to 2.5 ohms and higher on slim batteries.

What juice are you using? What PG/VG. Thin juices are easily to use with cartos, spread through stuffing faster, help prevent singeing. Some people can use thick juices on the dual coils but I do not know their filling method.

Are these the stuffing-type ones? (there seem to be some clear dc's now too)
How did you fill it, how much liquid did you put in, and how long did you let it settle before use?

You read it completely - I just read the problem. In a rush - I have to get to work.

Also - as a new vaper, did you learn to use cartos first on an easier carto like Boge 510 standard resistance? Or did you go straight to the 1.5's?

I can't help you with anything DC-specific. I do not use them. But please answer my questions about what juice you used and how you filled them - it will help someone else find your problem.

From what I've read, the LR dual coil cartos do not work well on batteries smaller than 650 mah. You may want to look at cartos in the 2.0 ohm+ range. It might just be your battery just isn't enough to power that carto.

Edit: sorry, didn't click in my head you are using a riva 510. Should be more than enough to power that carto. Next guess would be that the carto isn't full, or it's a bad carto out of the box.

Riva 510 is usually 750mah+ and the Liberty-Flights.com current ones are higher voltage than Ego at 3.7v. It is not a slim 510.

OK - so this is a clear dual coil? They are very new. Do they have stuffing? Or empty with dangling wicks? If the latter, sometimes a wick can be caught in the inner seal - in general clear cartos are for tinkerers with patience. Sorry I only know stuff about CE2 clear cartos, never seen the Smoketech dc clears. Clear no-stuffing cartos are usually filled with a blunt syringe through a specified spot.

If they are clear and have stuffing (would be odd but I have not seen them) - looking damp is not the same thing as being fully damp. With stuffing cartos you need to know the full capacity of the carto, and I make it take at least 18 drops per ml of capacity, then wait 15-30 seconds, then add how ever many more drops will easily soak in (while I hole a tissue on the threaded end hole). Then I clean up, blow out the central air channel (blowing into threaded end with open end down toward a tissue, and while the open end is down I touch a soft bit of tissue to the top of the stuffing to sop up any loose juice. Then it has to settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing is damp. I use high PG juices (80PG/20Vg or less VG) and that is enough time for my thin high-PG juices. With dual coil stuffing cartos I think people use a syringe for at least part of the first fill.

Hopefully someone can help you with these. They are very new. Meanwhile, try some Boge cartos. They are the most popular cartos on 510-threaded devices because they just work.

I use the smoketech dual coil cartos and LOVE them! On first fill, these cartos take a LOT of juice! You need to make sure that your carto is fully saturated all the way through, otherwise, the coils will burn the filler and you'll get that burnt taste and essentially, the carto is ruined. On first fill (brand new carto), I can easily get in excess of 50 drops in - I usually drip about 20-30 drops and then shake it (like a polaroid picture! haha) to move the juice all the way down to the bottom, and then drip in another 20 or so drops and just keep dripping a couple of drops at a time until juice begins to leak out of the threaded end. Then very gently, give it a quick blow out just to clear the center tube and wipe off the threads and it's good to go. Remember that the capacity of these cartos is just under 2 mls...that should give you a good idea of how much juice you can fill it with.
